I have had a lazer procedure done recently; not sure if one would call it surgery, though. Dr Paradee knows what she's doing. She also surgically fitted me with new permanent lenses about 6 months ago. The lazer procedure was done at Rahm Hospital, although she also has hours (Sun and Wed) on the 13th floor at Sipaht Hospital.

So what exactly was the procedure that you had designed to fix (don't anyone jump in here and say "bad eyesight") and what was the approximate cost?

I guess you're referring to my post. This was to correct a complication in the placement of the artificial lens that I'd received earlier this year. Cost was 5,200 baht. As you can see--assuming that you can see, this was for a very specific situation, and it's highly unlikely that either thaiscot or you are in the market for the same thing. Therefore, your mileage will vary.

Just curios but who did the original surgery that needed adjusting was it the same doctor.

I went to Siphat one to have y eye checked and to be honest a witch doctor could have done better. So I am a little leary of them. Not to knock the hospital I had my heart and lungs checked there also and was very happy with the explanation the one doctor gave me about my breathing.

Not a bit happy with the Heart specialist. He was good but he didn't tell me what I wanted to hear.sad.png

Yes, it was the one and same doctor. She told me that a certain percent of patients have the problem that I did after the initial surgery. I guess I wasn't expecting her to say anything else. The cost of the correction hurt a bit, but my vision is now 20/20, so I'm very satisfied.

ok thanks for the replies

my situation is that i am short sighted and have worn glasses or conact lenses for more than 10 years (im in my early 40s ) . but would like to not have to wear them at all if laser surgery could help .

i have heard of people who have had it done and are very pleased and would prefer to have it done in cm if possible but would travel to bkk if required

anyone had it done in cm ?

I would be interested to know of anyone who have had it done in Korat, i`m short sighted and drive a big motorbike a lot at night (in darkness) and would certainly like the improvement it gives,,, 3 or 4 friends had it done in the uk (£1000 for both eyes)...How does the cost compare here ?

Well so far no lazer surgery in Chiang Mai.

I copied this of the pinned list up above

I would suspect give them a call and ask them if they do it.

OPTHOMOLOGY (eyes)

Dr Rachada and Dr. Paradee

Chiang Mai RAM Hospital

Bear in mind that there is another fix rather than lazer surgery, and that is lens replacement at about 60,000 per eye. Speak with either of the doctors above. Dr Paradee also has hours at Sipaht Hospital on Sundays and Wednesdays, and meeting with her there rather than at Rahm will save you a couple hundred baht...enough for a buffet lunch afterwards.

MrBrad, What kind of lenses did you have implanted?

They are multifocal intra-ocular lenses. Alcon's AcrySof IQ ReSTOR in the left eye, and the aspheric version of AcrySof IQ ReSTOR in the left. More information here: http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/iols.htm as well as other sites online.

I wish that this technology had been available many years ago. The price is steep, but for good-as-new vision again, it's worth the price. Doc says I'll never be bothered with cataracts or need glasses again. I'm one happy customer.

Is your vision now 20 20 in both eyes and never going to change.

The paragraph above answers your question as much as anyone is able.

Just keep in mind nothing is 100% guaranteed.

Right. There are no guarantees on a deal like this. Not only that, but you do have to sign all rights away before surgery. Nonetheless, others have done this also, and they are also very, very pleased with the outcome.

As I understand it, since the lenses should not be subject to deterioration, (who knows what they're made of??), my vision should remain constant. Now, if only I have another 50 or 60 years to prove them right...Ha! I'll be content if I live another 30 or 40.

To be continued...

I had laser eye treatment about 5/6 yr ago but in the uk. Apart from the two holes in the back of my head I now have 20/20 A1 vision., and on a good night I can see as far as the moon.

I was shortsighted and wore contact lenses, not unlike sex, in and out every day but this was a ball ache.

I recall my prescription at the time was -1 which was ideal. it was a 100% guaranteed succcess rate; BUT i recall the limit was -2 or -3.

If you are over -3 forget it, it has little chance of 20/20 outcome because they are burning off too much of the lens to re shape it.

ok its not that bad, they told me, if you imagine the thickness of a hair on your head (if some of you can remember). the laser shaves off about a 200th of that thickness!

The procedure literally 10 minutes each side, just like when you had the snip!, some severe stinging afterwards, thought you were going to die etc etc!

but my eyes are still the same after 6yrs now, no deterioration but it could happen.

It cannot improve reading eyesight though as this has to do with eye muscles weakening (i believe),

but i think almost everyone who had it done will say "the best thing i ever did"

hope this helps for anyone considering having it done

I had the lasik eye treatment in Bangkok back in 2002, age related deterioration, far sighted but needing glasses to read +2.5 lenses, it did make my sight slightly better to +1 for my reading glasses, would i recommend it , no not now there are some far better options, i recently had my dominant eye lens replaced in Bumrungrad hospital Bangkok so now i have +1 in one eye and - 1 in the other now i can see long distance which i all ways could but i do no longer need to wear reading glasses,

in fact the day after i had it done i could thread cotton through the eye of a needle am 57 years old and hadn't done that since i was in my twenties http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intraocular_lens

take your time before you make any decisions and explore all your options, also please realise that you will get cataracts far more quickly when youve had laser treatment, so you will end up having bad eye sight through cataracts eventually or an iol operation later or sooner.

It does take quite some time for your brain to do all the necessary adjustments, i have suffered a lot of like fire works from bright lights, iam told that most people get this and it goes very quickly with some folks and with others it takes longer i have been 10 months now and still have the fire works but no where near as bright as they where, a friend of mine was a year into his when they disappeared, I hope this helps you. cheers and good luck
