TAT prepares to adopt new strategy for fear of Euro crisis

BANGKOK, 5 July 2012 (NNT)-The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has instructed all TAT offices in Europe to monitor the Euro-debt crisis and will devise a new strategy to protect Thai tourism from the declining European tourists.

Mrs Jutaporn Roengronasa, TAT Deputy Governor of Europe, Africa, Middle East and America Markets said the TAT offices in Europe have been told to report on an economic scenario in Europe weekly to prepare the Thai tourism for the impact of the financial crisis.

The TAT will have to find a new approach to maintain the level of tourists if the European economy begins to take its toll on Thailand. Despite fears, the number of European tourists coming to Thailand during the first 5 months of this year increased around 7-8%.

According to Mrs. Jutporn, the TAT has also reported that many foreign tourists opted to visit Thailand instead of the United States or Africa, which is a good opportunity for the Thai tourism to thrive.

She further explained that the TAT is now focusing on increasing the niche markets and high-end tourists such as those who are interested in golf, wellness, spa and romantic getaways. These people are mostly from Britain, Italy, German, Scandinavia, Russia, and the Commonwealth of Independent States.

yes Russian are good in Golf .....and enjoy Spas so much that in pattaya its hard to find them as they are locked in their 5* hotels .... is that a joke ? TAT always came up with so silly ideas I still wonder what will be the next hyper idea ... Not to mention Thailand have nothing to attract high end tourists. No casino , dangerous roads and I dont see the high end tourists walking down the road in patong or pattaya ... I remember taksin tried the same with his privilege card ...we saw the result.

In case there is a crisis? Think this plan is a little late

Thailand should focus on what they need to attract tourists

Get rid of scams and mafia style operators, more tourist attractions

such as large scale casinos and amusement parks and water parks.

Instead Thailand is stuck in same old same old

There already are large scale casino's in Thailand lol

Maybe they should use my trade marked Miracle Thailand poster I made a few months ago? Punters might appreciate the truth of the campaign.

quantity is up, but quality is down. We are getting more lower grade tourists, looking for 'value for money' vacation.

Well lets all hope they all go to Pattaya and Phuket, and stay away from everywhere else. Didn't know that Pattaya had anything other than "lower grade tourists".

Pattaya is a khazi. The only good thing about it is that it keeps all the riff raff away from other places.

TAT should be concentrating on ensuring safe, reliable, value for money holidays for people who now maybe just take the one holiday a year.

Mrs Jutporn, you couldn't run a raffle. Look at your statement record over this last year, it contradicts it's self so many times and the Ideas put forward to attract, and vast amounts of revenue spent.

Airport overflowing with Asians-Russians, up 30%, now again this woman is serious in pushing for the high end customers, you do not get these coming to a corner shop.

Get real, get down to basics, get out more, get these scams sorted, clean up your streets and canals-not forgetting your seas and beaches.

Within the grounds of a 5 star hotel, oe on an upmarket golf course YOU will not see the rest of place. When the high end customer does travel they are in fine tour vehicles.

To get work in TAT especially high up status do you need idiot background.????

To describe tourists that have less money as low quality is exactly what is causing the problem.

The tourist is considered as money machine only.

What a ridiculous statement. According to Mr. Jutporn's logic, every tourist who visited some place else, opted for those places instead of Thailand, which is a good opportunity for the rest of the world's tourism to thrive. The headline could have easily been: "Tens of millions of tourists choose not to visit Thailand".

Hmmm 6 years of the financial crisis and the Thai have just realised its happening, but why worry tourist numbers are up again this year.

Ya, you can look at the numbers. Riots and airport closures. How does the trend look?

How does the currency look?

Try googling investment in Thailand.

Aw heck what does Bloomberg know?

The posters here are much better informed.

There are about 40,000 hotel rooms in Pattaya. How many are occupied by lower grade Russians? Lower grade Chinese? Lower grade people from all over Asia?

If you want to call yourself low grade up to you. But I go to Pattaya often and I don't associate with lower grade people when I go.

Maybe time to go to Pattaya and have a look for yourself. Instead of making up stories or reading the trash written by ex brothel owners. What do you expect?

Got to wonder where all these tourists are, cos all Thai resort owners ask me is why people not come to Thailand. For a visa run spot . The Andaman Club the last 2 trips ( 1 on a weekend) is more like a morgue.

Ah so that's where the quality tousists are. Good to know.

I spent about 4 hours at Central Mall. New shopping center. Very expensive. Very busy. A couple of weeks ago I saw the Chirathivat (owners) family there, mom and the kids. Mom was dressed to the nines and the kids were well mannered. It was obvious they owned the place. Mom walked like that. No entourage, I was a bit surprised, just the family. I don't think they care much for the red shirts.

Why would you post an image like that? Do you get anything from berating a place you have never been to? Maybe I was too harsh. The beach has problems. Russians, Indians, Thais and Chinese don't seem to mind.

I've got a new strategy for TAT, and they can have this one free of charge.

1. Get the police to do their job.

2. Clamp down immediately and forever on the jet ski scams.

3. Enforce electrical safety so that tourists don't get melted stepping into showers, or taking drinks from pool side fridges.

4. Tightly regulate all tourist public service buses so that we have half a chance of getting off the bus alive, withdraw non compliant company licenses.

5. Arrange for farang mystery shoppers to check that taxis and tuk tuks are not routinely overcharging passengers.

6. Demand that the government ( management ) properly operates Swampy so that we don't have to trail across town to DM for domestic flights.

7. Demand that the government relaxes the libel law so that hotels etc can be named and shamed.

and a few more but I can't be bothered.

Just sayin' coffee1.gif

ps. for all that I love Thailand. If they could get rid of some of these unnecessary rough edges what a place it would be for every tourist. wai.gif
