Om Mani Padme Hum - May all beings be happy! ------------------------------------------------------------- 'Weekly Group Silent Sitting for the International Community @ Suan Mokkh Bangkok – BIA General Description A regular 40 minute silent group sitting, followed by a dhamma talk, will take place each Tuesday evening at 6.45 pm starting July 10. It is designed to provide a weekly group synergy to support participants’ personal meditation practice. The estimated total time is about 2 hours – until about 8.45 pm. Beginners are welcome but please be aware that this is a group run by and for lay people. As such we have no ordained person who is regularly leading the group or giving meditation instruction. Instead a lay facilitator will host the event although duties (e.g. ringing the bell) may rotate if the group would like this. Typical evening: 6:45 Arrive with a smile inside the BIA ‘A Taste of Nibbana’ meditation room on the 2nd floor. Greet friends briefly and settle oneself into the space. 7:00 Bell to announce the beginning of the silent sitting meditation. Many people will practice mindfulness of breathing and/or vipassana. You may conduct your own practice as long as it is silent meditation that respects the other participants. Sitting mats, cushions or chairs are available. 7:40 Bell to announce the end of the sitting meditation. Anyone who wish to leave at that point have the opportunity to do so. 7:45 After any departures, we intend to follow the sit with listening in silence to a recorded dhamma talk of between 20- 45 minutes. These may be selected from any of the Buddhist meditative traditions and from a variety of speakers of Theravada (Ajahn Buddhadasa, Ajahn Chah lineage etc…), Mahayana, Zen or other meditative traditions. When it is possible we will have a visiting teacher to lead the meditation and conduct a talk. At the conclusion of the talk, a hot drink will be available in the building. Location Suan Mokkh Bangkok - BIA is a 10 minute walk from the MRT Pahon Yothin Station (exit 3) and a 25 minute walk through the park from BTS Mochit Station (See map). We hope that this opportunity will provide encouragement to experienced as well as beginning meditators and will lead to renewed and strengthened mindfulness of daily life. Please lend your energy by being a part of this lay sangha group. BIA Website. Edited July 7, 2012 by camerata Email address removed as per forum rules.
