January 13, 200620 yr The Office of Phuket City needs an additional incineration plant while also promoting waste separation in the community. PHUKET: -- Commenting on the garbage issue on the island, Phuket City Mayor Somjai Suwansuppana said the garbage on the island is now rising up to 430 tons per day. She pointed out that the Phuket City’s incineration plant can cope with only 250 tons per day while the remaining 150 tons has to go for land fill. This approach can only go on for two years she said. Calling for public participation in solving the garbage issue Mayor Somjai said it needs an additional burner in the next two years when the plant has been designed to take up more หัวเผา burners which then can take up to 500 tons. Other solutions are adding more land fill sites, build more burners and improve waste management work and efficient separation. Among its plan the Phuket city office will seek a funding of 1.3 billion baht for a new burner as well as launching a campaign for waste separation to ease the problems. --thaisnews.com 2006-01-13
