not a big deal. You can way for the past two years and everything is back to legal. under 1000B

Not a big deal at all. Just buy the insurance and go to the office in Hang Dong along with your book, pay the fees. I think there is a small penalty for missing one year. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks guys

So is the standard insurance ok? Itsnot that expensive I dont think...

About selling it, the market in Ruamchok should be ok right...?

insurance about 330 baht (+/-). You need to pay the back road tax = 100 baht/year + 1 baht fine/year. As others say it's not a big or expensive deal.

ok brill, gonna get on the case tommorow, so all in all no more than 800 bt, nice one

can i buy the insurance at the same place i pay the road tax etc or through a company..?

There's an insurance office located on premises at the motorvehicle office at Nong Hoi. Most people dont even flinch when you tell them they'll need to purchase 400 baht state insurance to transfer the title.

Get all the paperwork at Nong Hoi also.

The buyer will receive a que card to pick up the registration book the next day. When he goes to pick it up there is no need to wait on line or wait for your number to be called. Just walk up to the issuing counter and hand them the que card.

so besides teh green book i have, insurance and tax, what other paperwork do i need?

Depends on if you will be there during the transfer, or if you are going to let the buyer go at it alone.

If you will be going with buyer:

1) Transfer document signed by you and him, dated.

2) Green book

3) Copy of your Passport

4) Copy of his passport

5) State Insurance (Pa La Bau) - not the same as liability, you dont need liability only the Pa La Bau

6) Registration must be current or you will get charged

7) Vehicle inspection paper, which is in the building right next door to the registration office on the same grounds.

If you will send him at it alone he will also need::

8) Power of attorney ( Bai Mob Ahm Nod) - signed by you but not dated, this will also allow him to sell the bike to someone else if he never transfers it.

If you send him at it alone the length of time he has to transfer the registration is the expiration date on the copy of your passport. Thats why you shouldn't put a date on any of the documents until he is ready to go, for his benefit.

9) THE BUYER will need proof of residency from immigration, immigration will require a rental contract/agreement or a house registration if they own a home. You the seller do not require this.

Its up to you whether or not you want to go with him to transfer the bike, Its good to get it out of your name in case he accumulates offenses while the bike is in your name, but most people get lazy when it comes to getting the proof of residency.

To protect yourself from any wrongdoings on his part while the bike is waiting to be transferred, you should draw up a contract stating that he bought the bike and you are waiting transfer and not liable, then get another Power of Attorney (Bai Mob Ahm Nod) and get him to sign it saying he purchased the bike, keep the original give him the copy, if not and he ends up hauling dope across from Laos, the bike is in your name and you can be prosecuted since its your bike. Get a copy of his passport also.

Best to go with the buyer and see that it is transferred, then no further issues. Better for the buyer too because he is sure to get the transfer, if he does not get it then he won"t be able to sell for much later.
