Accident Woman Killed After Being Dragged 100m in Pickup Truck Collision in Chai Nat
Picture courtesy of Workpoint News A 63-year-old woman has died in a horrific road crash after a speeding pickup truck collided with her motorcycle and dragged her body for more than 100 metres in Chai Nat province. The incident occurred on the Phai Nam Lon–Chai Nat city road in Ban Kluai Subdistrict. Police Lieutenant Boonchot Khiaolek, an investigator from Mueang Chai Nat Police Station, was alerted to the crash and dispatched officers to the scene along with rescue volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation and doctors from Chai Nat Narenthorn Hospital. At the scene, police found damaged Honda Wave motorcycle lying in the middle of the road, with its rear wheel crushed. Around 20 metres away was a white Mitsubishi Triton pickup truck with a crumpled front, shattered windscreen, and the motorcycle’s number plate lodged in its front bumper. Approximately 50 metres further back, the lifeless body of Mrs Som-O was discovered lying on the road. She had suffered a broken neck, multiple fractures, and severe bleeding. Her body was later transferred to her family to allow religious funeral rites to take place. In a heartbreaking scene, family members rushed to the site upon hearing the news and confronted the pickup driver, who broke down in tears and repeatedly apologised. Authorities took him in for questioning and legal processing. The driver of the pickup, 34-year-old Mr Weeratat, told police he had travelled to the area from Takli District for a fishing trip at the Chao Phraya Dam. While returning, he attempted to overtake another vehicle on the right before suddenly swerving left to avoid oncoming traffic, striking the motorcycle in the process. He expressed deep remorse, stating he never intended for such a tragedy to happen. A driver of a nearby car who witnessed the crash confirmed the pickup was travelling at high speed and had overtaken recklessly before abruptly cutting back into the left lane and hitting the motorcycle directly. He added that the road was busy with motorbikes at the time and denied any suggestion that the vehicles had been racing. You transfat laden masterpiece forged by the hands of minimum-wage heroes behind a plastic counter. Forget Michelin stars and five-star nonsense. Nah. This is the real deal lads. Plastic wrapper comes off, slide it into the sandwich iron, hear that magic phrase: “Warm?”, like music to your ears. Too right it’s warm, love, melt it like the sun’s gone on holiday. Into the heat it goes, and 90 seconds later, you’ve got yourself a piping hot slab of crispy bread, gooey fake cheese, mystery-meat ham, and enough salt to resurrect a dead man. No judgment, no questions, no waiter hovering by askin’ if you want still or sparkling. Just you, your toastie, and the silent nod of respect from every other hungover, half-sober, half slobbering, or just plain hungry soul in that shop. You can keep your caviar, truffle oil and the foie gras. Give Lewie that greasy little packet of happiness at 3AM when the streets are devoid of everyone but ladyboys, and the belly’s rumbling. Long live the ham and cheese toastie. The true five-star-feed of Thailand. Never lets you down, always there when you need it most. If only the birds were as tasty. -

The problem is TAT and the immigration stance are not one body. TAT wants quality tourists, more hotel bookings, and preservation of the tourist sites. Meanwhile the government opens up the borders to the world, including Indians. Cue mass cheap tourism. -

Community Thai Armed Forces Conduct Major Joint Disaster Relief Exercise in Sattahip

Thailand’s armed forces carried out a large-scale joint disaster relief training exercise, from 16 - 18 July, at the Air and Coastal Defence Command Training Centre in Sattahip district, Chonburi province. The annual operation, conducted in 2025 under the banner “One Team, Thai Forces – Duty First”, brought together multiple branches of the military in a coordinated effort to strengthen the national emergency response capabilities. The exercise, officially titled the 2025 Joint Disaster Relief Training Operation, simulated a range of natural disaster scenarios, including flooding, earthquakes and coastal emergencies. It aimed to enhance inter-agency coordination, improve tactical efficiency and reinforce the readiness of both personnel and equipment when responding to real-world crises. Participating units included members of the Royal Thai Navy, Royal Thai Army, Royal Thai Air Force, and personnel from various emergency support teams, local fire services, emergency responders and Bangkok Fire & Rescue USAR (urban search and rescue) team. Together, they demonstrated complex joint operations such as mass rescue efforts, rapid response deployment, first aid and casualty evacuation, logistics coordination and aerial/drone support for hard-to-reach areas. Rear Admiral Chaiyut Suphan, who oversaw the operations on behalf of the Royal Thai Navy, emphasised the importance of such joint exercises. “In the face of increasingly severe and unpredictable natural disasters, it is critical that Thailand’s armed forces are prepared to respond swiftly and effectively. This exercise ensures that every branch of our military can operate as one unified team in times of national need.” The training also included simulation of command and control procedures, mobile communication network setup and the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to locate victims in difficult terrain. Public safety agencies and civilian emergency teams were also involved, reinforcing the concept of civil-military cooperation during large-scale disasters. Local officials from Chonburi province attended the event to observe procedures and discuss future integration of provincial emergency protocols with national defence forces. The Royal Thai Armed Forces have made disaster relief a key part of their peacetime mission, responding in recent years to floods in the North and Northeast, as well as search and rescue operations during maritime emergencies. With natural disasters becoming more frequent, the 2025 joint exercise served as a vital reminder of the military’s role not only in national defence but also in humanitarian relief and civilian protection.
