Any anecdotal reports regarding setting up and doing business in the Chiang Khong port area ?

Please refrain from the usual 'business in Thailand' stories.

My interest is import into Thailand , processing and export out of Thailand with 51% owned by a Thai passport holder (daughter).

Quality first hand or good anecdotal information greatly appreciated........Ken

I don't have any experience it that area, but I just wanted to point out that if you are purely and export company (not selling anything in Thailand) you can be the majority holder. It does not have to have the standard 51% Thai ownership.

Also probably worth doing BOI. PM me if you would like assistance doing that. (It's not hard, but it does take time and effort filling in forms and producing plans and documents.)

I had a friend who has passed on now. He was strictly export what ever he thought he could make money on. He had no need of a business license here in Chiang Mai it was just buying and shipping it through a shipper. Lot's of permits and paper work on the other end.

For the importing end I have no information but I am sure you are on the right tract with your daughter being the principal owner and a Business License. I am sure that WTK can give you more information on that. Good Luck in your enterprise

Is the road construction up there done yet? Was up there last year and it was a real mess to try to drive through. Looks like the freeways will be pretty nice when done however.
