LUANDA, ANGOLA (BNO NEWS) -- Twenty-three fans of Angolan football club Kabuscorp were killed Saturday and dozens more were injured when their bus overturned near the capital Luanda, state-run radio reported on Sunday. It happened on the way back from a match earlier in the day.

The accident happened on Saturday when the bus overturned on a road near the town of Cambambe in Kwanza Norte province, about 170 kilometers (105 miles) southeast of Luanda. The vehicle was carrying at least 52 fans of football club Kabuscorp from the town of Calulo, where they watched a match between Kabuscorp and C.R.D. Libolo.

Sports network Radio 5, run by the state-run National Radio of Angola (RNA), said 23 people were killed and 29 others were injured. The vehicle involved in the deadly accident belonged to public transit company Transporte Colectivo Urbano de Luanda (TCUL), a local official said.

Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos said he was saddened to learn of the accident and sent his condolences to the families of the victims, according to a statement released by his office. It was not immediately clear what caused Saturday's accident.
