Latest 9Th Gen Civic Vs Latest Ford Focus

Recommended Posts

If the civic has become as bland as the altis, why not just get a 2.0 altis? It has a good cvt , with very good fuel consumption for its engine size. From the pics of the civic, I really don't like the dashboard - it reminded me of the plastic dash in the brio I test drove. Honestly, they could have improved the 9th gen over the 8th, but sadly they didn't.

The new 2.0 civic is quite a bit better to drive over the 1.8, based on the Paul Tan report. He tested the civic and found it to drive well and brake well, and the 2.0 is quite a bit faster than the 1.8. He said it drove better than the 8th gen, but personally I don't like the styling of the new model. The rear looks like an accord and the lenses on the trunk look out of place. Each to his own I guess. It will still sell well.

The reason i didn't want the altis is bcoz bkk is full of them in pink mostly in taxi guise.I could not agree more that the Altis 2. 0 has a better 7-speed CVT transmission but with it's price-I'd rather get the 2.0 Civic and it's price is way too far from basic 1.8 auto.Even the Altis 1.8 is much more expensive than the Civic and the Altis is due for a new model soon...

One man's meat is another poison as i actually like the rear end to resemble current accord although i prefer the euro accord's rear look more..but overall styling-the facelifted 8th generation looks nicer though as it feature LED tailamps.Current 9th gen only has LED tailamps in the hybrid version.

I test drove a 1.8 Civic last week, wanted to drive the 2.0 , but they didn't have any. Got a 10 minute test drive round the block mostly on small sois with speed humps and one road big enough to put your foot down for a short while.

The car, it's bland. It maybe a sensible choice on reliability and resale value, but it's bland.

The interior looks so cheap. The leather doesn't fit the seats. It looks like it was made by a bad kit car maker in his shed. Not to mention some of the dashboard looking so plasticy and cheap. It looked very 80's. Not to mention the interior colour. It's like something your grand parents would have had in the eighties.

The brakes aren't that good and the steering just feels of nothing.

The one I tested was auto and had no semi auto. As well as no folding seats.

The power in the 1.8 isn't really enough for the weight of the car. My wifes old city seems to accelerate quicker. Maybe the 2.0l would be better.

If the engine isn't revy in a Honda what's left except blandness?

Dashboard looking plasticky+cheap like in the 80's?Do we see a 2-tier digital dashboard in any of Honda's car in the 80's?Or any other makes? That's exaggeration...

Mine does come with folding seats at the rear or did u really explore on how to fold down the seats? The city is lighter and might have a better power-to-weight ratio which explains why u might feel the City is quicker off the start.Furthermore-The civic u had tested might had only clocked a few hundred KMs and just hasn't loosen it's engine yet.

1 thing i do agree with you that the civic is boringly bland..but bland has it's reliability in it..like toyota..if u like a bit of character, like Alfa-Romeos,be prepared for nitty-gritty problems here and there and might not be as reliable as the bland ones out there.

No worries as I am no thaicruze out there defending my choice of ride..no car out there is perfect for everyone..u just take the ride that suits u more..smile.png

The car certainly didn't have folding seats and the salesman said no civic had them. ermm.gif He didn't seem to put much effort into his job.

Ignore the two tier dash and the rest of the dash looks cheap.

Certainly no car is perfect especially when the choice is so limited here and expensive here. crying.gif

No folding seats?I'll re-chk mine as i might had overlooked this.Honda sales reps are quite stuck-up in a way that they know the brand alone sells...it might be time for Honda to suffer a major loss to other makes before they know what is customer service!

Did u just look at the dash or did u actually feel them? They are quite soft to the touch and will stand the test of time though...

I agree wif u no car is perfect and choice is limited.Expensive?I don't think so when the price of a new civic here is not even enough to buy a china ecocar back in my country.

I gave a check to the Honda when looking for a car... But I hated the digital speedometer of the Civic. And also the interior. Regarding the drive, I did not test-drive, so cannot really express an opinion on the handling.

Yeah, let's all buy a Chevrolet Cruze and flood these forums on how great this crappy car actually is., maybe the OP can change his name to "rev star zen cruise"

The only one that can answer this is you after you test drive them.

You're basically comparing an overpriced hunk of shit, and a ridiculously priced 1.6L Ford.

Personally, I wouldn't buy either if that's your budget and if you don't want other brands. Just walk into the Honda dealer and get the cheapest City and save some money.

Getting back to the subject, RevStar Zen. Have you considered getting an SUV? In Bangkokian traffic and upcountry, an elevated position and the shock-absorbing capacity does make a difference.

In addition, the huge boot space and carrying capacity does also help.

Yeah..i was initially looking at an MPV/SUV and was looking at the Proton Exora Turbo but in thai-it's resale value sucks and all other proper SUVs/MPVs costs at least a million baht!

I do not really like MPVs and SUVs with truck underpinnings so i'm only left with limited choices with the Exora top model closest to my choice of a small-engined-power adequate MPV.

Not quite. you have also the Toyota Avanza / Innova (but Avanza is extremely dangerous from the safety point of view), and the Ford Escape or Everest (4x2 for each model is now 999.999 THB). As to Proton, I heard a lot of horror stories on their reliability.

There is a caveat with regards to the Avanza or any MPV: a smaller motor does not help fuel consumption, unfortunately, as it has to work more to haul a heavy weight.

Otherwise, if looks and trend do not matter, try looking for an interesting offer re. the old Ford Focus. It is heavily discounted right now (heard you can get it with up to 70 K discount on the 849 K it costs).

Both Avanza/Innova uses truck's underpinnings which is exactly i do not like.Everest+Escape for that price u've mentioned is for manual transmission only. Not auto which my gf nid to drive as well.

Smaller motor with turbocharging does help which is like VW's latest engine technology!Small engined forced induction!

The old focus is a bargain but it just don't appeal to me when i know the new model is way much better+nicer!:P

Sorry to correct you, RevStarZen, but the Escape 4x2 is an automatic, not a manual.thumbsup.gif

http://www.ford.co.th/en/suvs/escape/spec-data

At that price, you can surely further negotiate some other add-ons.

I guess your gf would love the handling of the Escape... Being as easy to drive as a car.

Escape is indeed auto but it'll be the same fate of the Altis which this model will soon be replaced by a newer model escape..I hate to know when i've juz paid some $$$ for a supposedly "New" car.. a newer model pops out and my "New" model is not so new afterall..get the drift?:D

Sure, but in the meantime you paid it 100 K less than a "new" car, so you get all the advantages of a "new" car at the end of its shelf-life.

When choosing a car, sometimes, all is a question of compromise.wink.png

Ya..but come to think of it,is the outgoing model worth the 100K discount than the latest incoming model which has better features, design and the "wow" factor?Google 2013/2014 Escape and u know what i mean.

We haven't factored in that used car dealers will most often than not offer much more for a newer model than an older model when it's time to sell your ride.

Is the 100K discount still attractive enough considering the depreciation value of the old model?

To me-I'm afraid not unless i like the outgoing model much more than the incoming one and the incoming new Escape is dam_n sexy!

RevStarZen, passing over a car because a new model is about to come out makes sense... if you are going to buy it!

So far, I understand you were refocusing on the civic and new focus because they are cars within your budget and pleasant to drive. You did not mention wanting to switch to the new Escape.

At any rate, Ford gets heavily depreciated in Thailand, so skipping it altogether might not be a bad choice.

I did consider the outgoing Escape actually before refocusing on the new civic+focus but the outgoing model is too long in it's model line and i've gotten news+pics of new escape launching. But then, the price of a new escape would fall way out of my budget which i've narrowed down to only the new civic+focus.

I agree with u fully on Ford's depreciation in thai which is 1 of my main consideration point that i've opted for the Civic instead.

Most south-east asian countries are conservative in branding when it comes to cars and it's depreciation values. The big "T" and "H" had formerly built their reputation well..but they gotta be on their toes as the koreans are coming straight at them!
