astral
Does anyone own this receiver? I have listened and read the reviews, but thought I would do a final check before placing the order next week, just in case anyone has negative input. Thanks
TongueThaied
Sorry, I do not know anything about this receiver, but looked at some reviews and they are glowing. I may be interested as well. May I ask from where are you ordering and what is the price? Edited September 1, 2012 by TongueThaied
astral
I am buying in Singapore. The shop had a demo set and I was able to listen, but no stock. When I get back there next week I will order and he should have it for me in 2-3 days The price is S$1800. I will post comments and impressions once I get it home and set up. drdoom6996
I have had a Yamaha RX-V757 since 2006.. I matched it with Bose speakers. I would not trade it for the world unless I upgraded it to a unit that has HDMI connections. As of noiw that is not necessary. I believe you will love it. That's 1000 dollars better than the price here in Thailand.

Dubai is around US$1000, but I have to get there.....................
TongueThaied
I just checked ThaiMart in Phitsanulok for the Yamaha RX-A1010. They have it in stock and on display. I do not recall the stated MSRP, but the promo price on the sign was 44,900 ThB (1,793.93 SGD), and, of course, as always happens at ThaiMart, the guy immediately offered it for 5% less, or 42,655 ThB (1,704.05 SGD), so a little less expensive than Singapore. In my experience, ThaiMart will always knock off another 3% when somebody pulls out their wallet. It could probably be found for less in Bangkok. I have to admit, I am quite surprised that this unit is offered for less in Thailand than Singapore. I thought Singapore was supposed to be some bastion of free enterprise. Of course Amazon has the US 120V version for only $900US, or 28,200 baht. About the same as Dubai. astral
These are the speakers that I have in mind. Using google translation I have found some reviews that sound quite promising. The amp is on order. Speakers to be listened to once I get home
astral
Getting settled in with the amp and learning what all the settings do Still only main speakers and a centre, but the surround image is excellent. Interesting on Direct, the way the stereo image sharpens, almost outside the limits of the speakers. I remember the discussions of 20 years ago about whether turning off the display light made any difference. In Direct mode it goes off automatically. I am very happy with the overall package.
