Qpr Need Some Glue Now...got To Be A Pre Season Signings Record

Having narrowly avoided relegation, QPR have wasted no time in attempting to ensure that they will not fall victim to such pitfalls again this season.

Manager Mark Hughes has severely bolstered the ranks signing no fewer than 9 players at budget value, spending little over £6 million for the lot.

We’re not exactly talking underperforming unknowns either with most of the signings boasting international caps and accolades at the highest levels of football worldwide.

With The Hoops finalising the transfer of Inter Milan stalwart Julio Cesar yesterday, here’s some information regarding the incomings at Loftus Road.

Robert Green

Position: Goalkeeper

Age: 32 years old

On his day, he has to be considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premiership. Green is an eminent shot-stopper and is extremely commanding of his area on high balls.

Last year, in the Championship, he helped West Ham United in only conceding 48 goals in the 45 appearances he made – that was the fourth least goals against statistic in the league. Additionally, he also personally claimed 17 clean sheets.

He also boasts 12 international caps for England including attending the 2010 FIFA World Cup which, if you consider his lack of experience at that level, is no mean feat.

Ryan Nelsen

Position: Centre Back

Age: 34 years old

With a man of 34, you’d expect an endless amount of experience but Nelsen has amassed knowledge from leagues in three different continents – Europe, North American and Oceania.

He has always been a leader from an early age skippering DC United by the age of 24 before continuing this trend of captainship at Blackburn Rovers and for his international team, New Zealand.

The man from Christchurch has always been tough-tackling and rugged in the shape of All-Black rugby player even though he isn’t as spritely as he once was.

Andy Johnson

Position: Striker

Age: 31 years old

Andy – or Andrew, where applicable – Johnson has been scoring goals in the English leagues for well over a century now.

He has even represented England 8 times on the international stage and many have always bemoaned that he was never given enough of an opportunity to show what he could do at that level.

However, his productivity has depleted as the years have gone by. Hughes and the QPR fandom will be hoping that he can rediscover some of the form that made him so lethal in front of goal at previous clubs.

Samba Diakite

Position: Defensive Midfield

Age: 23 years old

The Malian was initially on loan at Loftus road but has done enough in his short stint to warrant a £3.5 million permanent move from Nancy.

At 6’1ft, he has the physical presence to do well in this league whilst still having age on his side to improve.

Diakite is strong as an ox, bold in the challenge yet is also as composed as he is uncompromising. His hardman reputation doesn’t always work well in his favour as his exuberance has landed him in trouble numerous times in just 9 appearances receiving 5 yellows and a red card handed to him 30 minutes into his debut.

Fabio da Silva

Position: Left Full-Back

Age: 22 years old

I think it’s safe to say that Fabio is the lesser regarded of the da Silva brothers but Ferguson still sees something in him so he’s only out on loan.

Last season he only managed 20 appearances in all competitions. Still, the Brazilian only lost 2 of those appearances in which he was involved.

Hughes has brought in a versatile player here as Fabio is more than multifunctional playing either side of the defence, left midfield and even knows a thing or two about central midfield having began his career as a CM for Fluminense.

Ji-Sung Park

Position: Central Midfield

Age: 31 years old

What more can be said about the tireless Korean that football aficionados won’t already know from watching United over the years? Park is massively decorated; not only in the English Premiership, but also the Eredivisie and J Leagues. Not to mention the 7 individual awards presented to him over the past 9 years.

He has managed to score for every club he has played for including contributing numerous assists.

His style is all about work rate and enthusiasm for 90 minutes. Park is often referred to as the ultimate big game player for his performances and crucial goals against the big teams.

One would guess that if there were something left for Park to achieve at QPR, it would be an FA Cup trophy which, somewhat unbelievably, he hasn’t gotten his hands on yet.

Junior Hoilett

Position: Left Midfield

Age: 22 years old

Hoilett is a tricky customer; lightning quick with the ability and skill to turn defenders into knots. In fact, he is so good that we all though he would be destined for a club with loftier aspirations.

What people will want to see more from Hoilett is just how he copes playing against some of the bigger teams and more intelligent defenders. For years he has shied away from it, even declining to play for Jamaica or his native Canada because he wants the chance to improve at club level. The only way you’ll improve is playing against the best, son!

Jose Bosingwa

Position: Right Full-Back

Age: 29 years old

At Chelsea and Porto, the buccaneering right back has won pretty much everything there is to win.

QPR have definitely bough an exciting pacey player with great know-how of attacking and defending at the appropriate times. Some may say he is much better at attacking than defending but his credentials speak for themselves. He couldn’t be that bad.

Julio Cesar

Position: Goalkeeper

Age: 32 years old

Green’s place already looks to be under threat with the Brazilian number one in town. He even has strikers worried with Cisse expressing an internal worry that the former Inter Milan keeper has players fearing for their place – just quite how that works out is beyond me though.

Cesar has won the Serie A 5 times, the Champion’s League once and is in the privileged position to be able to brag a World Cup winners medal too.

As colourful characters come, they don’t get more colourful than the 32 year old who will unquestionably be has interesting to watch as a skilful forward.

Esteban Granero

Position: Midfielder

Age: 25

Granero is an exciting addition, and brings a touch of class to QPR's midfield, a definite upgrade from the departed Joey Barton.

He has signed from Real Madrid, for who he appeared 17 times in La Liga last season. He is at a club where finally he will get the chance to play regularly, and could be their missing link in attack.

There are always questions over foreigners coming to play in the Premier League, but if he adapts as quickly and as well as compatriot Michu at Swansea, then QPR will have secured themselves a real bargain.

And there could be more...

Stephane M'Bia is close to a move from Marseille, and the club have been linked with Portsmouth teenager Sam Magri. Will there be a few surprises later on this deadline day? Don't bet against it...

I have a theory.......I think QPR try to save paying players through the close season and sign them all on the last day of the transfer window. They did the same thing last year.

QPR.......the AirAsia of the premiership......looks glam, but always late and on the cheap.
