You can't buy beer at central. Soo.... Um....

you can't? pretty sure they have a full line of liquor being sold at central on the ground floor.

Or are you implying that they sell beer at the refreshment stand at the Avenue theater?

. Dont know why they do it must cost loads more money on electric. Cold enough to put me off going back there.

Yes, of course they know it costs loads on electricity. Cinemas are like caves - dark with no fresh air. As it is, they are probably only air conditioned for 12 hours a day. They need to be kept cool to preserve the carpet which covers the walls and floor and the seat coverings. If they didn't keep it cool at low humidity it would be mouldy and musty inside because room temperature here averages around 30°C at 70 - 80% humidity.

The only other option would be to make the cinemas like they do in the Philippines - concrete floors and vinyl seats. Trust me, it's a lot better over here. My wife never complains - she just brings a light jacket and socks. It's not difficult to stay warm.

going to the cinema is a recreational, not a survival exercise, each to their own, guesss califonia and florida etc have it wrong, Cinema's being eaten alive. switch feezeer on 12 hours a day saves money, erm works like hell getting upto temp it was before, False ecomomy. 1 reply will suffice.

If you call sitting in room watching a movie at 20C plus survival, there's something wrong. I don't suppose you considered bringing a sweater? Too difficult for you?

California is a dry temperate climate. South Florida is sub-tropical. Both are nowhere near as hot and humid as tropical Thailand... not even close.

You mean which is the best fridge with a big screen..

Seriously, if you think these cinemas are too cold you need to do something about your circulation. I watched another movie tonight in tank top and shorts and was very comfortable. Minimum temp reached during a 9:40pm session in cinema 1 at the Avenue was 19.6°C at 56% humidity. Most of the time it was above 20°C. That is not cold. For anyone who cannot handle 20°C, take a jacket and stop the whinging.

How did any of you people survive a winter in your home country? That's a decent summer night temp in most countries in temperate regions of the globe and a hot summer night in cooler regions.

Why would I want to take a jacket to a cinema? One of the reasons behind moving to Thailand for most of us is so that we can wear no more than a t-shirt and shorts any time of day.

No wonder It was freezing cold the last time I went to the avenue. Twenty degrees is at last three degrees below a comfortable level, and judging by all the mails complaining about freezing cinemas I'm pretty sure most would agree.

There's no helping some people.

The fact that a few whingers are complaining doesn't mean that most agree. The people who don't agree don't usually comment on things which don't bother them. Whingers love to have a good whine whenever possible. If it's not about the temperatures, it's about the cost of the tickets.

I only go to the movies on a special occasion as it's kinda expensive but I always take a jacket with me as I usually wear a tank top and I don't want to catch a cold.. rolleyes.gif

The Major ciniplex also give discounts to Seniors! Just show Thai driving licence

I tried that but they don't consider all with a thai dl to be seniors. Perhaps you'd like to clarify at what age folks qualify for a senior discount at said theater...

no I'm actually serious, I can watch a movie for free at home and as I said I don't find the screen size so impressive at Major... the 60 baht wednesday was ok but now it's 80 baht and you have to make sure to pick the right seat to get the discount rate.

I'm a resident, early 30's so gotta watch out for inflation and capital preservation ermm.gif

Sure, you can watch movies at home for free, but you can't watch a new release at home unless you want to watch a TS (cam) version.

If you want a bigger screen, sit at the front.

Or I can wait until the Bluray comes out, no rush for me biggrin.png Sometimes I watch the TS and then I'm so glad I didn't spend any money to watch it at the movies, I was so disappointed with Prometheus. Latest movie I went to was the dark night rises and as english is not my first language, I didn't understand Bane so well, kinda ruined it for me sick.gif

Fair enough. I do both. Watch some at the cinema and some at home, but I really enjoy the free air-conditioning. I get a bit upset when my movie is showing in Cinema 8 at The Avenue though - it's too warm at 23.5C. One time I complained that it wasn't cold enough.

20 degrees??? Zsiish. Under 25 is torture. And I come from a country where it can get to -30 in the winter. Survived by burning a couple of forests in the stove and having gear through which only eyeballs are visible. The temps were one of the larger reasons I changed scenery.

As for the theater .. well I have a home theater, so that one. HD projector & surround system, sofa where I can get my legs up lazyboy style, fridge with cold drinks in the corner. And temp 26-27.

tropo I understand that You like to go to cinema..I like that too..but I don't like to bring a sweater or socks with me...one of many reasons I stay here is the climate..I said before in another thread where You wanted some hard facts and had made some kind of investigation about the temperatures in different cinemas...well for me the hard facts are : it's too COLD.

You're unbelievable.... You complain it's too cold and complain that you don't want to bring a sweater.

Another hard fact - nothing is going to change. Does that mean you'll continue to complain forever or stop going?

You all sound like whinning little girls or geriatric old men.. you decide which fits.

VIP screen at central

600 baht a seat...

+1. Nice lounge to wait in before the film, free finger food, nice sofa to sit on during the movie, waiter to bring me what I want, no riff-raff sitting near you chatting away or messing with their cell phones.

You and Alvin sound like proper Little Lord Faultleroys rolleyes.gif

if you have it, flaunt it

oh and its Fauntleroy 's mormon

who says literacy is on the wane?

Siam Paragon cinema is one of the nicest, in the world. Alot of comfort for the money. The Nokia screens are amazing, but at 700 baht, are they worth it? This theatre is a great cinema experience. I like to go to the late shows, to avoid the out of control rug rats. For some reason, few Thai parents think it is polite or the right thing to do, to control your kids in the theatre. This can be pretty annoying. Some are receptive to my comments that the kids are out of control, and some get very offended. How can I control them? They are children. They own me. I am their slave. That kind of thing. Best experience is to do late show, and walk in several minutes late, to avoid commercials.
