I have recently been looking at what SUV are available in Thailand.

My requirements are.

1. Must be petrol ( Benzene )

2. Must be 4X4.

3. Must be automatic.

I have found out this much so far. Isuzu M7... They are all Diesel... so they are out. Toyota Fortuner 2.7 petrol... They are only sold in 2WD. so there out. Mitsubishi Pajero petrol... again only sold in 2WD. even the V6 is 2WD. again there out. Ssangyong Actyon 4X4. only sold in Diesel.

Does anybody know of any others that I have not mentioned here ? Unfortunately they stopped selling the Fortuner 2.7 petrol 4X4 around 2006 in Thailand.

...not sure, why do you limit yourself to petrol/benzine SUV?

The reason I want petrol is that after the 3 year warranty is over I will convert to LPG. The SUV is because I require good ground clearance but do not want a pick up. smile.png

Diesel is not expensive here and the price is fairly stable...after running on petrol for 3 years and then converting to LPG,you may not be saving much...and prices of LPG will be much higher in 3 years...

Well I have a 4x4 Pajero Sport running diesel. Today:s spot prices on fuel are:

So that is 29.99 Baht for Diesel and 43.05 Baht for 91 and 35.18 Baht for 91 E10. Taking into consideration the superior fuel economy of Diesel vs petrol why do you wish to go this way? If doing a lot of Km per year then the LPG conversion would be worthwhile. But run the numbers first and also consider once you get out of the major areas LPG will be hard to source. Bear i mind you cannot compare LPG to petrol for a litre/km basis as LPG has a lower calorific value, hence lower Km per litre of LPG. Also Pajero Sport 2wd and 4wd about the same ground clearance I think.

Everyone has a different circumstance, so maybe re look and be sure you are getting best for needs.

Cheers

Well that was a spectacular failure of posting an image.

Depends how serious a 4WD you want, but the Captiva comes with a petrol 2.4. I believe not a great engine, and of course only light duty 4WD but depending on what you are looking for maybe an option.

If a car based crossover SUV like the Captiva and Escape are options, You might like the Mazda CX5 as well. They are supposed to be introduced sometime in early 2013.

surprised nobody mentioned the HONDA CR-V, petrol and 4wd last i checked.

if you are ok with second hand, the Nissan X-Trail is a nice car, decent petrol engine 2.5 l with about 180hp (ok, you won't feel them all, but they are supposingly there...somewhere), still beats the CR-V in my opinion. The new X-Trails are 2WD only.

Both have not exactly very good ground clearance...

What I have been told from a Ford dealer is that the New Ford escape will be announced officially by end of this year 2012 and on the market by the middle of next year 2013.

Looks like its going to be a long time to wait if they are correct ? ermm.gif

...and they rarely are...:)

I concur with all the posters advising against a 3-year wait to convert to LPG - the current LPG subsidies are intended for cooking gas, not transport use. IMHO, we'll almost certainly see the prices rise to un-economically-viable values within that timeframe.

Are you sure Nissan use the 2.5L 180hp engine in LOS. Their web site only lists the X-Trail with 2.0L at 136hp. That engine with 1.5 tonnes to drag around would not be quick, and probably worse on LPG.

very sure, as my wife has it, but as quoted it is the old model with 4WD, that's why i said you can get one 2nd hand. the new model has only 2.0l engine and 2WD....

Funcat, this is US MPG, meaningless to us old Ozzies and Brits.

Yes, just stick to l/km, the same for everybody.

Prefer km/l myself smile.png

In the New Ranger it shows only L/100km...unless there is a way to change this?

Convert in my head. The manual shows both, but I haven't found out how to change it...
