Where To Buy A Toddler's Tricycle (And How Much) In Cm?

Hi All,

This is my first post here, as I only just stumbled across this forum. Spent plenty of time on LP's TT, but have yet to get a good answer to this question.

My wife and I are heading to CM in November with our 18 month old son.

Previously we have visited CM (and Mae Hong Son) without child, but this is our first time back to Thailand with child. For the record we have been O/S with him when he was 6 months (Singapore & Penang).

The plan is to explore the areas around CR, using CM as an entry point from KL (flights all booked).

We have booked a car with driver and guide to make life easy to get around.

Whilst we will be bringing a stroller with us, at the moment his loves his trike. Given how much crap (yes I said it) one has to bring along with a child (plus a father who like photography - me) we are looking into simply buying a trike in CM (and maybe renting a car seat - although that's another story, we will probably bring one from Aus).

That way we use it and leave it (maybe at a local village we visit towards the end of our trip).

And ideas of the availability of such toys and rough prices?

Thanks in advance!

We bought are two year old niece a small bike with training wheels on it. I think the cost was around 700 baht at any rate a lot cheaper than renting a carsmile.png

The best I can do is tell you that it is on the road that runs from the moat to Wararot market. On the moat end there is a Mikes burgers on the corner. There was several places selling them along the road from the moat to the big sign over the road welcoming you to china town or some thing like that. This is all on the East side of the old city.

Hope this helps you.

A couple things:

I HAVE seen those tricycle/push-thing combo carts at the big super centers like Big C and Tesco.

However: I don't think they're high enough quality for serious outdoor use. Even if they were, in Thailand you run into the same issues as people with regular pushchairs/pushcarts, or folks in wheelchairs: every sidewalk is an obstacle course with many uneven areas where there is a drop-off and then back up to sidewalk level. Using any kind of push cart (or tricycle, or wheelchair) is hell. Secondly there's the sun; don't fry your kid in heavy afternoon sun. ;)

I think the best way around this is do like you already suggest and rent a car, and for the bits where you walk get one of those kiddie backpack/frontpack things to carry him around when he tires of walking. At 18 months your son will probably just fit in those.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Just to clarify, we are looking for something along these lines:

as opposed to an actual bicycle with training wheels.

Cheers.

I followed the link some pretty nifty items there. When I checked the where to purchase it did not have Thailand on it's list.

Like the other posters have said check Big C or Tesco Lotus. Not sure if they have any thing that fancy there though.

Good Luck

Thanks for the continuing flow of responses.

The use of the trike, was for places outside CM like Mae Salong and surrounding villages that we will be visiting. He is currently 16 months, not yet walking, but prefers his trike to the pram/stroller. At 15+kg already, he is way too heavy for any of the standard baby harnesses (baby bjorn etc). Only the elephant style toddler back pack seats would carry him - and I don't feel like being an elephant.

We have a City Mini Baby Jogger Stroller for inner city use (which survived Georgetown, Penang - which for those of you who know, also doesn't have sidewalks).

I'll check out those suggestions above and see how we go. The stroller will always be the fall back anyway, and who knows, he may even be walking by the time we arrive anyway.

Cheers

That is really a cute time of life when they start walking. Then they get good at it and you start to learn to chase them. A two year old has more energy than a Pro football player. Enjoy it
