On top of the actual cameras themselves, we have to take into account all the cabling and or other bandwidth that would have to be added, the vast amount of data storage and poeple to process the results of a million cameras.

Then the annual cost of supporting and maintaining all that infrastructure. This should be seen against the latest news that tax revenues are below what the Government had expected.

Finally cameras do not prevent crime, expect in specific scenarios, and this “Miracle Eyes” will be just like the promise to eliminate drugs by this September.

I've got another headache.

A large proportion of CCTV cameras in London are monitored & can be controlled from central locations, this means criminals can actually be tracked from one camera to the next & so-on, while information is passed to the police on the ground.

They are not all stationary cameras only to be used for viewing footage after the criminals have left the area.

You mean there are still criminals in London? So the cctv cameras don't actually prevent crime ?

Well dopey ... it was a video camera that helped convict the killers of the Western Australian travel agent recently. So, I'd say the chances are better than you making a valid contribution to this forum !!!

Although cant find an exact number of CCTV camera's in London, there are estimates of 400,000, so once again Thailand is going to go one better than a farang country...

A new hub perhaps ?.....a regional hub for CCTV camera ?

They're missing at least 3 very important components of the CCTV system that operates across the UK and not only in London.

1. A proper police force.

2. Effective anti corruption measures.

3. Data protection laws.

I'm not suggesting the UK or any other western democracy is perfect but there are measures in place for all these items. They do look near perfect when you compare them to Thailand however.

It reduces it and aids detection of those responsible.

It should be mentioned that London doesn't cover the entire UK but there are similar cameras in most other cities as well.

Working along a similar theory that the best way to avoid an aircraft hijacking situation would be to issue all passengers who get on board with their own hand weapon, then it would be much cheaper to issue every Bangkok resident and visitor with their own side arm. You wouldn't get many bag snatchers then!

And really, an image capture rate of 1 per minute is not any good for the purpose of catching potential criminals in the act (as the acts are random), so I think by the time they have sorted this little one out it may be easier to have a Thai manned mission to the moon (he says, now seriously concerned that Yingluck or one of her chaps responsible for new 'bright ideas' may be browsing the forum).

The Thai politicians and Government officials really do have a habit of constantly engaging mouth before brain.

For some goofy reason, Thai's seem to have gone cctv crazy. Maybe it's a Hollywood thing. A monk here at my temple in Phoenix, Arizona, decided we need cctv camera's around the temple to catch people stealing. We have nothing to steal. A bar of soap or tube of toothpaste maybe. But anyway, we now have 6 camera's all pointing at the inside of the temple where there is absolutetly nothing to steal. Oh, and one camera pointed at the door of his room. Nobody goes to his room anyway. I can't imagine what he thinks they would want from his room. I could maybe understand it if the camera's were pointed at the parking lot, maybe. I'm guessing he has something in mind for these camera's, but can't even guess what. Like I said at the first, it's a Thai thing.

Let's see if the BIB uses these cameras to bust up all the dope dealing that takes place on Sukhumvit Soi 3 in the wide open by our African comrades.

I bet many of them will be emty schells. The Government has to prove they doing something.

Why spend all this money? When something happens the camrea will be out of order.

If they want to catch the biggest crooks,

The mere basics of this program present great technical and ergonomic challenges as to absolutely diminish any hope for any substantial benefit of what this program is intentioned to do.

Only people who are on record and who pay into the system will pay for this. The larger percentage of those who do not report their incomes and operate without a license will not be affected. This is simply one part of the chaos that makes this scheme impossible to effect the desired results.

Finally, I find it ludicrous that they want a system to tell them what they already know; to point out the very criminals that they are already aware of and, were they to now arrest them, would remove the need for cameras.

No; the only thing this system will do is to bloat the already top heavy government with more fluff and waste. There is so much they could do with what they have got, and yet they do not. Jumping to another method that lays responsibility at their feet will only promote more corruption and more excuses to not do what they are supposed to do when it is time to do it.
