Police in northern Thailand have arrested four ethnic hilltribe people and seized 600,000 methamphetamine tablets with a street value of over 180 million baht (US $6 million), according to The Bangkok Post. National police chief Priewpan Damapong said at a press conference on Friday that two pick-up trucks had been stopped at a checkpoint after Chiang Mai police received a tip-off that there would be an attempt to smuggle a large amount of methamphetamine pills, known locally as ya-ba, through Chiang Mai’s Phrao district. Thai intelligence sources had indicated that a drug ring had paid the suspects 500,000 baht to smuggle the drugs over the Burmese border into Thailand. Under the plan, the drugs would have been initially stashed in Chiang Mai and later transported to clients in Bangkok and its vicinity, said police.

I am surprised to hear that Burma messes with such messy drugs. I have always thought of them as the Heroin gods. Also it surprises me that people in Bangkok would be stupid enough to like meth. It is a hillbilly drug popular with uneducated hard core people in the US. I thought the Thai's would be smarter than us stupid Americans when it came to meth. I guess there is a market or they wouldn't have done it though.

You must be new here. Heroin has been out of favor up there for years. Yaabaa is extremely popular everywhere in Thailand in all classes of society. Just turn on the news. There are huge busts for yaabaa every day; in fact usually a couple of busts per day in the Kingdom.

The thing is it wont make a blind bit of difference to anything. it never does. The so called war on drugs started by Nixon all those years ago has been the most blatant and costly failure in the world.
