Does anyone know the recommended max wading depth for a Pajero Sport.

I have seen a few PS with an extension to their exhausts and has got me thinking about what I could do to increase the wading depth.

I know you can also add a snorkel for the air intake but what about all the electrics?

Durring the floods in my stock riton which is really the same as your except the body, I went as high as the top of the stock tires about 60 cm with never a problem.

I just kept it in first gear, went slow, and high RPMS

Mitsubishi's brochure for the Challenger, (the PJS Australian cousin), claimed a fording depth of 600mm. There are some minor equipment differences but the major components are the same so the figure should be similar for the PJS.

Are those extensions to the exhaust unnecessary? You often see 4x4s with snorkels and what look like unmodified exhausts.

They used them only during the floods if the engine stalled or was turned off. Water would otherwise rush into the exhaust pipe, causing damage to the exhaust system/cat. I would imagine in deep water the water pressure might affect the speed gases can exit, possibly causing problems keeping the engine running smoothly - it might stall.

Thanks for the replies. So if you were to add a snorkel to a PS to increase the wade depth, would you need to do some extra waterproofing for the electrics or other components?

If you really want to take you PJS swimming, probably should to check for low mounted diff and gearbox breathers as well as electrics.
