Recommended Posts

I am coming to Chiang Mai for a couple of days and will arrive by bus from Chiang Saen with my wife and 2 kids.

1. What is the best economical way to get from the bus station to a hotel next to the night bazaar?

2. I was told of a good shop near the night bazaar to get cheese, india food paste etc - I cannot remember the name though

Hope someone can help

Song Taew from bus station to town, you'll see them, 30B a person is what I pay, but I'm sure it should be 20B.

Not sure on the cheese etc, maybe Rimping? From Night Bazaar, head East down the soi between Mcdonalds and Burger King, straight over the iron bridge, turn right, soi on the left about 20 yards down the road. 5 mins walk.

The songtaews are charging 30 THB to get from the bus station now; Thai or farang.

Never ask a song taew how much just get out and hand them 20 baht as this is the going rate unless the go straight to your front door then they charge more has always worked for me i just have to walk 5 minutes up my road which i don't mind .

...or you can splurge and take a tuk tuk for 80-100 baht.

unless you want to go around the city while the driver drops off other passengers first.

9 out of 10 times, they will stop maybe once for someone else right on the way to your destination. All in all, songteaws are a really good deal.

So sorry to hear your wife has a walking disability. When it comes to shopping my wife can walk for hours. And she often walks to Rimpings from the night market area. But I guess your wife helps the economy when the night market Tuk Tuk drivers want 500 Bt to dive the less than 1 km there

2 adults, 2 kids, and luggage in a Tuk tuk you do have a sense of adventure or a death wish

I've never seen anything like it. They don't like to walk even 20-30 meters. Another thing I miss about Europe...people enjoy long walks.

They (Europeans) also enjoy the rather cold climate, hence the long walks. Normally people staying in Thailand don't enjoy long walks....because it's hot here. smile.png

I take extremely long walks and many of my farang friends do too. Heat does not bother us at all.
