Windows Updates

I've tried a couple of things and nothing seems to work. A few weeks back when I shut down it said 8 updates, next morning it said Updating Updating. Now there are 12 updates, every time I shut down it try's to load them and when I power up same thing.

I ran virus software, looked for patches and they just seem to hang in the background.

Any thoughts ? Suggestions ?

Run the updates via IE and the update site - it may need to update the update program itself.

It won't always work but the easiest thing to try is to stop the windows update service (from Administrative Tools\Services), then using Explorer find the folder under c:\Windows called softwaredistribution and rename it to softwaredistribution.old and then reboot.

That will clear all the pending updates and the download/update process will start again from your last successful update.

Don't worry, even if it doesn't work you won't cause any harm. In fact I usually just delete that folder rather than rename it.

The first method is a safer place to start though.

You have probably already done this, but it is first base. Go to Start - Control Panel - Windows Update. In the latter, there is a box 'Important Updates'. Select 'Check of updates but let me choose...; That way, you can look at the size of the updates. Also, if it is trying to update something you don't have (cf. bahtboy above), you can R-click on the update and banish it forever.

If you have slow www. speed, the updater can take the fun out of www.ing because it will prioritise itself over your pleasure... AA

Early this morning (meaning midday Friday in Redmond) a cumulative security update came out.

Security Essentials updates can come out any time, but it looks like they are being updated more frequently these days.

Perhaps you have a Windows copy . Microsoft shuts them down or feeds malware to <SNIP!> things up. Had them in new PC's, the shop re-installed for 300bht.

Yes was always Tuesday, but now appear they come any day, closing down last night was an update said 1x but took a long time, likewise this morning configuring windows took a long time so must have been a large update.

I have legit Windows & shut the updates off. I gave up all of the helpful real Microsoft updates I ran and still 12 updates. I don't care but it takes so long to boot up in the morning.

Yes it is the only thing I downloaded and now I am having a terrible time removing the malware from babylon. I use IE/Firefox/Chrome and all are infected. I trust Microsoft sites and yes I got a warning from Norton but I ignored it........now babylon.

If you can do other members a favour and delete your link above it will save lots of headaches.

Look for the thread on the Microsoft Internet Explorer vulnerability - this is an out of band fix to block that.

You probably click in some of the google ads with the download button, looks pretty easy to do a mistake if you don't know what you are downloading

WUD the software that I recommend for Chicog and the "deleted link" to the MSFN forum (support for the WUD and NLite project) was a reference for him since he manually look in google the latest security updates and patches for windows, what the programs do is exacly the same, so in the case of Chicog not need to look in google, only need to check what he needs to download from microsoft using the WUD software as a downloader, it's not an automated installer or an alternative to windows update.

What the program it's used is for download all the updates for an specific Windows version as an add on of NLite to create "Unnatended" versions of windows fully updated.

So It's nothing about the link or the software or me, you probably click download, download, install, install in that shitty google ads, take care the next time, sorry about babylon I hate that but all the time you can made an analysis and set advanced (if can) to see what really you are installing.
