Best Way To Fix A Sliding Balcony Window.

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I would be interested in experience from others, who i'm sure have encountered this one. My sliding door is now NOT SLIDING! Should have fixed it earlier but no time alas. I've seen some youtube video's but this seems to deal only with replacing the wheels at the bottom. The actual track at the bottom has worn quite flat, so new wheels would not improve things much. I saw on the net there's a replacement kit which sits over the worn track which obviously avoids the time and effort replacing or fixing the old one. Is this or something similar available in BKK - Homepro etc.? If not, how do i deal with this problem effectively?. I was thinking of using a grinder to reshape the worn track, grease it and replace the wheels. Will this work O.K and be a good cheap fix? I do not want to replace the entire windows. How best can i deal with this?

Thanks.

The fact that the track wore down is strange indeed. Must have not been on the wheel for some time to do that - and the noise it should have made. Don't grease the track it will stick to dirt and can't sweep it just makes a mess - it should be dry. The wheels adjust for height so the door does not hit the track when it moves as well as making it easy to remove the door. Proper thing to do if you have a bad track on the lower section is to remove and replace it. On a cement floor or if it is over tile should not be that hard to do and the track itself is rather cheap. If your not a DIY type person find a local glass and window screen shop and they can do it in a matter of an hour or so.

edit should note it is metal not vinyl because if it is a vinyl frame your going to have a bigger replacement issue. I am assuming it is the brown metal type that is most common here.

Hi.

Some good advice. I should have dealt with it earlier, it has been making a lot of noise and sticking. Finding a glass specialist is a good idea. I tried to get a tradesperson earlier, but my experience is that similar to foreign tradesmen they a not generally interested in small, fiddly jobs! They want big, well paid one's instead.

Thanks.
