Thai Wife With British Passport

Recommended Posts

Good morning.

My wife entered Thailand in January of this year on her British passport and is currently on a 12 months visa (reporting every 90 days).

She has recently obtained a new Thai passport.

In order for her to cancel her visa in her British passport, can she leave Thailand (say a visa run) on her British passport and return on her Thai passport or failing that, what is the correct procedure?

My wife will of course will need to use her British passport in the future.

The best option would be for her to fly out to a nearby country and return.

She would use her British passport when departing and then use the Thai passport when she returns.

It is not advisable to try this at a border crossing because immigration upon her return would look for stamps from the other country.

Just as future reference, a thai citizen can always enter Thailand on an expired passport. A Thai citizen can not be refused entry.

Having said that, the most pain free solution for your wife is to hop down to Malaysia or Singapore on an LCC, exiting Thailand on the Brit passport and re-entering on her Thai.

For that trip she should take both her expired and current Thai passport as immigration on arrival back into BKK will want to process both.

Thanks samran. Was already aware of this but not until after my wife had entered Thailand on her British passport.

We will be travelling to say Penang or KL with my wife exiting Thailand on her British passport, using her Thai passport at immigration to obtain the necessary Malaysian visa and return on her Thai passport.

Thanks for your help gentlemen.

If you mean will not have card for return as those using Thai passport for exit from Thailand would have just explain departed on another passport - nothing illegal in that - but if issues ask for supervisor who will know the rules.

She would still have the card in the old Thai passport from when she last departed Thailand on it.

Ideally, bring both old and new passports for the return trip and immigration will process both. If you don't have the old one, then just do a lop explains.

leave thailand on the british passport. enter the next country (land crossing or air) using the thai passport then return using the thai passport. it is simple the only thing to remember is you leave using the passport you entered with. if immigration ask about stamps just show them the other passport. thay have seen it all before so it is no problem
