PATTAYA:--Late on Sunday Night, following 4 hours of heavy rain, the Minister for Culture Khun Sugamon, conducted a tour of the northern outskirts of Pattaya which has suffered over recent months due to a canal which constantly bursts it’s banks and causes severe flood damage to nearby houses.

The area is zone 4 in Banglamung District which is close to the boundary with Laem Chabang and the Minister saw for herself the extent of the damage caused by Sunday afternoons rainstorms with flood waters up to a depth of 1.5 meters in places.

It is thought that up to 50 homes in the surrounding area are now not fit to live in, according to the Minister, who was told by local officials that rainwater from Laem Chabang, Banglamung and Pattaya converge on the area and the canal simply cannot cope with the volumes of rainwater. The Minister has promised immediate assistance to local residents
