Military will not step in to control protesters: Sukampol

BANGKOK: -- Defence Minister Sukampol Suwannathat said yesterday that the government will not need to seek help from the military to suppress the anti-government rally led by the Pitak Siam group because the police were capable enough to handle the situation.

The minister said he spoke to police chief General Adul Saengsingkaew about the matter when the Pitak Siam or Protect Siam group, led by Boonlert Kaewprasit, held its first rally last Sunday.

At the rally last weekend, the group announced that it would hold another protest against Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's government and might even gather in front of her office.

Sukampol said people had the right to protest provided they did it under the legal framework.

"Don't violate the law and do everything rationally. Be responsible for what you say. Since all [leaders of the protest] are over 60, please take it easy. Our country needs to move forward, otherwise we will be wasting time resolving unnecessary problems all the time," he warned.

The minister said he agrees with Army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha, who has told the military it should remain neutral and stay away from the protest.

"The military has to be disciplined and the commanders have been instructed not to do anything," Sukampol said.

Meanwhile, media tycoon Sondhi Limthongkul said he would not go see the police officer from the Crime Suppression Bureau who has summoned him over allegations of supporting a military coup against a democratic government on television in January. Sondhi, a leader of the yellow-shirt People's Alliance for Democracy, has been summoned for questioning on November 7.

"It's a political move. Why would the police call me 10 months later?" he asked.

Police have summoned both Sondhi and Boonlert for questioning on the same allegation made by lawyer Karom Ponthaklang, who accuses them of wanting to call a military coup against a democratic government.

Separately, opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said officials had the authority to take action against those who commit wrongs, but they should be able to enforce the law justly otherwise it would only ignite more conflicts in an already divided country.

The more they deny, like before, if history were to repeat itself, the more likely a coup, but not by using the army against the protestors. But interesting on the 'summonses'. What about statute of limitations? 10 months after the fact is a bit ridiculous and most likely as stated, politically motivated.

So let us take a look at the examples set by his goverment since it came to power over 12 months ago and see what we have learned from their actions to encourage like type thinking and the guidance of..

They have constantly ignored the above in relation to the paragraphed quote the minister has made.

Tthey have by definition consistantly and openly encouraged and their red shirt / UDD supporters to carry out on their behalf ( Thaksins ) what he is now warning those who democratically choose to oppose the P.T. government and all it supposedly represents.

How irresponsible and contradictory can they get, they first of all turn a blind eye to chaos and in doing so seemingly / apparently give their blessing for all the anomosity and blatant disregard to the laws and institutions they are supposed to respect and protect, along with democratic the considerations of all sides.

Their bias of which there can be doubt is there for everyone to see and they have followed a definitive path of disorder which is masterminded by the one who will / would reap the benefits, should they be successful in their objective.

To add insult to this the government have assisted and allowed many, arrested and in some cases convicted of crimes regarding constitutional law based on documented evidence that proves their wrongdoings totally ignored,

In addition elected MP,s have provided or made funds available to bail most of the criminals out indefinitely and without personal assurances being respected by those released and in fact encouraged to carry on the same as before.

This if anyone doesn,t yet get the message is being orchestrated not for the benefit of Thailand, it,s respected institutions and it,s deserved, loyal citizens but deviously implemented to facilitate the fugitives return, free from all his past wrongdoings and release from and existing jail term he is trying to avoid.

In effect a complete whitewash / pardon of all the well documented wrongdoings he carried out while CEO of the country.

AS for his unprincipled subordinate who is carrying out his wishes on his behalf "Jataporn ", he long ago prostituted his ideals in relation to his supposed beliefs and as for the people he would have believe he represents and fights for their rights, he doesn,t give dam_n about them and crossed the line to the side of the privilidge several years ago.

Sadly they are up to now to gullible to see and recognise what he has become and the only person he cares about apart from himself is his master Thaksin Shinwatara.

They are well suited to and compliment each others objectives for self first and only.

Eventually two will become one with Jatapron going off, content and satisfied with his mega kickbacks ect. ect. and move on to another phoney ideological venture were he can manipulate the no brainers who are gullible enough to believe in his long gone concerns of the non priviliged.

Do you even know what the oath of those joining the army is? The top responsibility is to protect the monarchy. Next is the state. The interest of its citizens doesn't even figure, certainly not expressly.

Here's a newsflash: People in charge of the biggest guns in Thailand don't have the highest moral ambitions at heart. If they did, they wouldn't control the biggest guns in Thailand. Even if you stepped off the plane yesterday I'd expect you to be less naive than that.

Correct they are there to protect the Monarchy first up. And correctly you point out the state next. But under democracy the state is the people so why are you putting another ruling group between (Pheu thai wanting to be above the law) / or its in its place (The Shinwatra Dynasty tentacles) gaining total control in vitual governance points...and all if they could. The balance is correct for now and for the intermediate future. The judicarcy with the suport of the Army should arrest Thaksin, immediately he chooses to step foot in the country, and hold him at the hotel of his choice under Army house arrest until he is tried for the outstanding warrants from before he and his equally corrupt family fled the country, and also while he defends himself for the more serious charges for the crimes against Thailand and being more specific as per the attack on Thailand, the Thai Army and the people of Bangkok. Thaksin knows where he stands. I think the Army have it about right for now, stay our for now and let them cripple Thailand econocially while the very poor grass roots Reds supporters are still only getting their ฿500 bribe. The 1st flash point between rival groups will be when 2 or 3 sections of the constitution are being proposed.

Seeing as the police were about as effective guardians of the peace as chocolate fireguard's the last time around it is understandable that the army were called in.

Don't a number of other countries in this world have a National Guard type set up which to all intents and purposes is a military faction.?

I purposely left out the monarchy while referring to lineofentry,s post, and out of consideration for Thai Visa,s respected and rspectful rules on related discussions.

May I politely suggest as a respectful member you do likewise.

It is an acceptable known for anyone and everyone who comes to Thailand and how the monarchy stay above politics as indeed the armed forces are.

Reverence is one thing that does not need to be expressed when recognising the highest institutiion of all and you and all others who would try to disrespectfully bring them into the ongoing scenario and you should know better.

Thaksin is doing his evil best to bring the country into disrepute and his interference out of self preservation and self only interest will be the eventual be the downfall of him and all who are openly supporting him,

The PT Government, UDD,redshirts and all similar associations doing his bidding, while totally ignoring Thailand and it,s loyal citizens to everything honest and decent appertaining to this country, it,s esteemed history and highly respected institutions ect.ect. is beyond the pail

To seemingly put the criminal on the run from justice as the be all and saviour of this countries wellbeing and it,s future is well and truly off the mark. ( and quite the opposite to what he represents.)
