New In Thailand And Two Visa Questions.

Featured Replies

hey iam new in thailand and i have some questions regarding visa issues.

at first i had enter the enter by bus from cambodia so i got 15 days free visa stamp. my wife also entered thailand with but as she is vietnamese she got 30 days visa free stamp.

so now i would like to know if there is a possibility to extend that visa stamp by any time?

and the next questioni have is if anybody could post a step by step discription how to go for example to laos there to the thai embassy and ask for a tourist visa. how much time it needs when travel by bus? how does it cost in general? is it better to go to cambodia? or if i could simply go to any visa service here in bangkok and let them organize that for me? do i also have to stay at less than one day in laos to get the new visa? or how does it work?

as i am new here and my wife will wait for me in bangkok i am bit worried that there will be any problems. thats why i have so much question.

thanks in advance already.

Why not make the trip with your wife - you will have to stay at least one night (up to 4 in Cambodia). You apply in morning and obtain next workday afternoon in Laos. You do not mention nationality and visa for Laos is determined by passport country. You can take bus to Nong Khai or train or fly to Udon (about 45 minute van ride to border crossing into Laos at Nong Khai. Believe doing yourself on full size bus or train or plane would be more comfortable than using a visa service van but that is also an option.

thanks for the answer. she is vietnamese and iam german i forgot to say that.

any idea about cost? as i really dont know the prices for a bus ticket or whatever

Believe bus/train will be below 1,000 baht each way (max) but even that will vary by class of bus or if sleeper train. You should easily be able to find with a google. The key is to know Nong Khai or Udon is destination from Bangkok.

so that mean buy a ticket bus/train drive to Nong Khai, apply on the border for a laos visa than go to vientiane. search the thai embassy and apply there for a tourist visa and than travel back.

what will be total cost?

around 120usd?

Other than a flight to Udon Thani the train can be most comfortable. You can get a 2nd class sleeper for about 500 baht. Website: http://www.railway.c...sp?lenguage=Eng

Cost of lao visa on arrival will be about 1500 baht or $35.

Edit: The tourist visa will cost 1000 baht per entry.

How long are you planning to stay in Thailand? If only for the extra two weeks your wife has you can just cross Cambodia border for another 15 day entry in scheduled van service from Bangkok every day for about 2,000 baht all inclusive. Using a van service to Vientiane would cost a bit over 5,000 baht all inclusive so a bit under that by yourself if using cheapest options I would suspect. The Lao visa will be about 1500 and Thai visa 1,000 and transport/hotel/meals if doing yourself.

we would like to stay until end of dezember. so that would mean the cambodia option will be 3 visa runs for me and one for her that mean 8000 thaibaht at all for that.

the other option is go to laos apply for a tourist visa around 5000 baht and than one visa run for her. 7000 baht

am i right with that? what you think would be the best optinion?

have vietnamese citizen problems with a visa run on a thailand border?

sorry that i ask so much but iam worried because never have done it before and than with wife which always ask if iam sure what i do there if and i cant go back than i will kill you. liek asian wifes are. ;)

so only want to be sure

She will not require a visa so would be less so about 6k (3 trips) for you and 700 baht for her one trip. If she would like to make trip it would cost 500 baht to stay on Thai side for the Cambodia crossings.

I think I would go for a single entry tourist visa considering the costs, time and dangers (by minibus) of making 3 border runs.

If you were to take your wife along with you to Vientiane she could also get a tourist visa and might enjoy visiting another country. I am still looking to find info on her entry (visa or no visa?) into Laos

There would not be any visa requirement for her into Laos per this page.

Thanks Lop.

So the only additional costs of your wife going along and getting a tourist visa (cost 1000 baht) is for her trip up. (assume you would be paying for her expenses while you make the trip alone).

at first sorry for the late reply. we had done the visa run to laos by train and it was really very nice. without that vietnamese passport holder will not get a tourist thai visa. the embassy said if she wants to stay longer than 30 days than she has to apply for a visa in vietnam.

and i still have a question about this, my wife had to pay with a couple of other vietnamese personsn 100 thaibaht as she wants to get her 30 days visa free stamp at the border. is that a normal or simply tipycal asian police tee money?

Asked by police in which country? In Thailand, if no receipt is issued you can assume it is not an official fee.

at the thai imigration, so from thai immigration police. they had please a couple of vietnamese passport holders in an office. 5 minutes later she came out and ask for 100thaibaht or she will not get her stamp.

So wife and others from Vietnam had to pay 100 baht to enter Thailand. Did she get a receipt for it.

There is no official fee for entering Thailand that I know of.
