Be cheap, don't flash cash around to impress people, they just think it is foolish, and don't wear jewelry, even your watch. Bangkok is a whole different place than Pattaya, but still be street smart. pickpocketing happens in Bangkok lots more than druggings. Freelancer Ladyboys are the most common threat at night. Grab your pockets if anyone grabs you, or touches you seductively on the streets. Don't carry a billfold, you don't need it. Billfolds are the biggest targets for pickpockets. ALL you need on you is the cash you need for the day/night, and a folded up photocopy of your passport. Leave your room key at the hotel desk if you can, no need to chance loosing it. If you have to change money, or get cash from an ATM, then that should be the only thing you do on that trip out of the hotel, return to your room right after to drop off valuables, and extra cash. I would bet money that in the vast majority of cases if they did any kind of tests there would be no drug at all in their system other than alcohol. There have studies in the US, UK, and Australia where they do blood tests of people claiming to have been given the date rape drug, and in 99% of cases the only thing they find is alcohol or some other recreational drug they took willingly. After an intensive recent study conducted within the Thai criminal fraternity, it concluded that Americans were too cheap, and therefore were not worth drugging and robbing. In Thailand no one ever tests these people claiming that they were drugged, so it is very easy for someone to claim. Those study's are for dfsa and nothing to do with women drugging guys to rob them. Also afaik the drugs required to do such things are not freely available over the counter in the above countries which would likely make a huge difference to the figures of any study. True, and also don't have lots of money lying around your room if you take hookers home. The BG is only 2-3 thousand baht, so why these Italians who were robbed in Pattaya had 12,000 baht or 300 Euros in cash? The least someone can do is put their cash and valuables in the hotel safe.
