Religion is the mother of all evil when it comes to breeding violence and in the Catholic church's case, Pedophiles. In the case of Buddism I find it to be alot more moderate and alot less religious if that makes sence. hmm... tell that to the Hindu-Bhutanese that were, recently, ethnic cleansed. or those who in Sri Lanka who just lost to the Buddhists, or the Rhoyinga. Those who think Buddhism hasn't had it's share of the same style of atrocities as Christian and Muslim are, sadly, mistaken. There are whole websites dedicated to genocides in the name of Buddhism, one of which the Japanese Holy War of the 30's and 40's. People NEED their Immortality Delusions so badly, they can't abide another's Immortality Delusion. They have to Convert or Kill. I have been suggesting a Religion Olympics. Every 4 years they ALL face off as to which has it right. They can use Angry Birds OR American Weapons. Which one gets the Gold Medal, the WHOLE World has to join that Religion for 4 years, until the next Religion Olympics. I KNOW this sounds 'stupid' but, hey, it's smarter than the Reality of this sorry, pathetic Planet. 555 Edit,,, Bhutan, reportedly the happiest place on Earth where and/or because it;s agin the Law to build a Church, Mosque, or Synagogue,,,, Buddhist statues,,, Yes. Not sure if they will now suffer the wrath of the National Office of Buddhism (NOB ) as well as the Information Communication and Technology Ministry for doing so. Some people are outraged at the Chiang Mai school that had students dressed as Nazis. Most Germans and Jews are outraged that Thailand sells Swastika t- shirts. And just about every luxury label maker is outraged that Thailand sells fake copies of their goods. I am outraged that Sukhumvit road is now just an open air sex shop with all the stall holders having dildos etc on public view. Somebody should tell these monks/Thai government to get their own house in order before they criticise other countries/organisations. there feel better now. um...I doubt "most Germans" are upset that Thai puppets wear Swastikas. I think the Thai reaction is warranted and measured. Had the model done a photo shoot in a Mosque with nothing but a copy of the Qaran covering her private pieces the world would be at war. Yep. There's no question about the ones who made the decisions on the use of the nazi uniform, Hitler-mascots and other nazi-swastika (red, white and black) symbols printed or painted on items knew exactly what it meant and had no good intentions with it, but it's wrong telling Buddhists not to use the Swastika. It has been part of the Buddhist religion since the beginning of Buddhism (2555 years). Many different kinds of Swastika's are being used by the Buddhists, even the red straightforward Swastika. Around the world the Swastika has many different meanings, dates back as early as the bronze age, over 3000 years ago and is still being used all over the world today. Germany tried to ban the use of Swastika in EU in 2005 but it was rejected by most EU-members since the Swastika was being used by many, mostly in spiritual context. You might have aded this little bit of info since we are once again on the well worn swastika subject. The word "swastika" comes from the Sanskrit svastika - "su" meaning "good," "asti" meaning "to be," and "ka" as a suffix. Sawasdee ka? as the Thais might say. The Germans took the symbol of Swastika and turned it so it appears as a revolving wheel, if you look at Asian symbols, the symbol is square facing the 4 directions. People on this forum have every reason to criticize Buddhists for not standing up for human rights in Thailand. wanke_rs who say it's ridiculous and a waste of time to protest pornographic representation of images of a beloved and pristine image have no concept of what purity is and how icons and symbols are held in reverence to some who uphold sacred values. You can do anything as long as you repent your sins and donate regularly. That's why all the mafia and child abusing preists are members. I saw recently that the organization that uses the Buddha Bar brand has opened a new joint in Czech Republic. No one seems to complain about having a Bhuddist themed bar, with lots of Bhudda statues. No concern about relgious symbols in inappropriate settings or uses. There's even one in Dubai. Can you imagine the outcry if someone opened the Allah Bar, or Mohammed Club? Perhaps the Pope's Inn or Jesus Lounge. The Bar Mitzvah Bar could be a wow ! All packed with relgious symbols and artifacts of course. Or we could have "girly" photo shoots at the Vatican, Grand Mosque, Wailing wall and Canterbury cathedral. Easy to dismiss someone else's regligious views and feelings isn't it? There is Bar Mitzvah as well as Buddha bar in London; lots of Arab named bars and restaurants selling booze, lots of Bangladeshi curry houses sellings booze , thousands of Muslims owning and working in corner shops selling booze and naughty magazines. They have plenty supposedly "immoral" kind of business in every country; it just some country or people believe in freedom of religion and ones own beliefs should be a case of personal practise, while others want to project their beliefs upon the world. The second lot are seriously dangerous and the source of much of the worse evil in the world; far far worse than a bit of disrespect to an image. Everybody has their own Karma. Another photo shows... After having to suffer through viewing countless Maxim magazine photos on their Facebook page (it was pure hell, I tell ya) in an effort to find the photos in question, but without success, I turned to the news media. The Thai newspaper Daily News has posted them in their article yesterday on the subject. Not sure if they will now suffer the wrath of the National Office of Buddhism (NOB ) as well as the Information Communication and Technology Ministry for doing so.
