Mae Sai Or Mae Sot?

Featured Replies

Hello I am in Thailand until 22nd December, my current tourist visa expires 27th Nov so I need to do two more border runs before I leave.

For my first I plan to go to Cambodia on the 27th but for my second visa I happen to be travelling to Nhao, Lampang for a few days on the 7th Dec so was thinking of doing a border run to Mae Sai, one day whilst in Ngao. Or I was thinking a better way might be to simply stop off at Mae Sot on the way back home from Ngao to Bangkok. I think I'd need to take a bus to Lampang then take another bus to Mae Sot, get my visa stamp then take another bus to Bangkok.

Can anyone advise which would be the most trouble free visa run?

Many thanks

I have used them both.

Mae Sot tends to have unexpected 'boarder closed' days.

Mae Sai doesn't seem to have that problem.

Mai Sai for sure if your near Lampang . Bloody hot in Mae Sot, but traverse very Steep Mountain Highway, so it is scenic and rugged. Make sure Brakes work.
