Having a problem converting a good VHS tape to DVD. Finally found a person with a tape machine that is working and can read NTSC, but don't know if the shops have a video reader to intrepid. This classic movie is 15+ now and want to preserve. Any help appreciated.

IF you have a computer , you can get a TV card and connect the line out from the VCR to the computer and record that way.

OK, getting the video into your PC will be no problem, any half decent capture card will be able to handle NTSC and PAL quite happily, time to browse Pantip.

Your problem may be with the player. You will need a 'real' NTSC player. The machines that play NTSC tapes on a PAL telly output a weird version of PAL called PAL-60 (PAL encoding but with a 512 line 60Hz field rate) which may confuse the capture card (and/or your DVD authoring software). Check on the VCR if it has a PAL / NTSC switch (or is NTSC only) and switch to 'NTSC' or 'AUTO'.

When you make your DVD or VCD don't attempt to convert to PAL, leave it as NTSC to maintain the quality (99% of PAL players play NTSC disks).
