NormanChomsky
mine would be Pridi Phanomyong. This brave pioneer, who was one of the main players of the 1932 revolution would even make it onto a list of world greats. I highly recommend his book "Pridi by Pridi: Selected Writing on Life, Politics, and Economy" Who would you choose?

SteeleJoe
Off the top of my head: Pridi? Buddhadas Bhikkhu (who happened to be a significant of influence for Pridi, but my regard goes well beyond that)? HMK? farang000999
Dhanin Chearavanont and family. When people make these lists, they always undervalue businessman who have improved the wealth of their country dramatically. JurgenG
I think if history books remembers only one name , it will be Thaksin. If the political situation is allowed to stabilize in the coming years, he will probably be remembered as the father of modern democracy in Thailand. jpinx
it's a no-brainer His Royal Highness the King of Thailand Long live the KIng !!! The title is His Majesty. I stand corrected - I am not not familiar with titles for royalty, but I recognise a great man when I see one.

SteeleJoe
Pibun Pibunsongkram? You do know he was tried for war crimes and complicit in the deaths of thousands of Brits, Australians and Americans on the Death railway. Indeed, and it should be remembered. However, one can reasonably argue (though I wouldn't) that it was a case of merely choosing the wrong side, and 'history being written by the victors' and your comment representing a eurocentric point of view. The fact he was guilty of far far more than that in terms of what he did to the THAI people: a brutal despot and a HUGE opium trafficker.
