I think if history books remembers only one name , it will be Thaksin.

If the political situation is allowed to stabilize in the coming years, he will probably be remembered as the father of modern democracy in Thailand.

You do know he was tried for war crimes and complicit in the deaths of thousands of Brits, Australians and Americans on the Death railway.

Indeed, and it should be remembered. However, one can reasonably argue (though I wouldn't) that it was a case of merely choosing the wrong side, and 'history being written by the victors' and your comment representing a eurocentric point of view.

The fact he was guilty of far far more than that in terms of what he did to the THAI people: a brutal despot and a HUGE opium trafficker.
