Lopburi3,

I have seen that you have a good grasp of the visa system, so could you help?

I have obtained a 1 year O visa for the last 2 years through a Thai Embassy in the Middle East. I have now changed my work location and am now nowhere near an Embassy, can i get my next visa through immigration without leaving the country or do i have to go to say Penang or somewhere similiar. We have all the relevent documents (marriage certificate, childs birth certificate, money in the bank, etc), where do I go from here?

My understanding is you have had a multi entry O visa and work overseas so 90 day stays were fine. Believe that is still the case but your overseas work is now not near any place that you can obtain that type of visa? You can not obtain a visa from immigration.

1. If you are not sure of being here at the renewal time I would continue to use the multi entry type and obtain in Penang (maybe a vacation trip with the wife). That would only require two or three days and your marriage certificate (plus perhaps a copy of her ID card) and you would be set for another 15 months or so.

2. You seem to have the support Thai wife requirements met (400k in Thai bank account from outside country) if you want to explore the extension of stay at a local immigration office. But I think it may be more trouble than worth if you travel frequently as you would also require a re-entry permit and have to be here for two or more trips to process over a period of 2 months or more and do the same thing each year.

Believe you are best suited to the multi entry O visa until you relocate to Thailand full time.

You are correct,

I am still working overseas on a 28/28 rotation so i will take your advice and take the wife to Penang for a long break. I have a mate in Butterworth so i can kill 2 birds with one stone.

Thanks for the advice, most appreciated.
