webfact
POLITICS Watchdog group seeks removal of PM, cabinet members File photo : Mongkolkit BANGKOK: -- Mongkolkit Suksintharanon, secretary general of the National Anti-Corruption Network (NACN), petitioned the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), charging widespread corruption in the implementation of the highly-criticised scheme. The National Anti-Corruption Network on Thursday launched a fresh attempt to remove Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and two cabinet members from the country's administration for allegedly facilitating irregularities in the rice pledging scheme, Thai News Agency reported Thursday. Deputy Prime Minister/Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong and Commerce Minister Boonsong Teriyapirom were included in the removal list. Mongkolkit said the NACN has sufficient evidence that implicated politicians' associates in the irregularities. He asked the NACC to investigate transparency in the rice pledging scheme and the unusual monetary movement of senior civil servants involved in the scheme. He also asked the graft-busting agency to forward the petition to the Supreme Court Criminal Division for Political Position Holders and the Senate for consideration whether there are grounds to launch an impeachment against the premier and her two key ministers. -- The Nation 2012-11-

They need to see that they don't benefit from corruption and that corrupt politicians are some of the worst kind of criminals. Examples need to be made before things will change. After a few politicians have been publically humiliated, the others may stop to think before they shamelessly steal from the pockets of the poor. The threat of loss of face (and prison sentence), needs to outweigh the gain of more wealth which most of them don't need. Change, as always, is needed. As usual it needs to start with education. lemoncake
In all fairness, many criticize her but has anyone ever asked 2 most important questions? 1. Is she herself aware that she is a PM? 2. Does she understand the meaning of PM?, she may possibly think it stands for "pretty" minister, ie stand/sit around and do nothing just look pretty

MaxLee
Well, good luck, for that NACN dude, he'll have an entire army of corrupt politician to go up against, who are protected by an entire network of Political criminals that would do anything, even if it's murder... don't get yourself shot....
McMagus
This could well be a watershed in Thai politics if successful, because it would mean the removal of a PM by legal means and mechanisms rather than a coup. I wish this guy all the luck in the world .... he will need it. My gut reaction is.. He will be moved to an inactive post He will be sued The report will stop at the next highest level in the bureaucracy A prosecution may ensue which takes a zillion years to come to trial The reconciliation bill is passed and brother comes back and 'fixes' everything All of the above
NCFC
So if he really has evidence then wonder why he didn't supply it to the opposition during the recent censure debate? Would have received nationwide coverage. Or is this just another attempt to tie up the governments time and resources, instead of letting them get on with the business of running the country?

waza
He's not alone............ The growing coalition against corruption in Thailand will get a major boost on Thursday, when the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Anti-Corruption Network will sign a partnership declaration at the Sathornthani Centre of Rangsit University........The new partnership aims to promote regular dialogue and strategy on fighting corruption, the development of public advocacy campaigns, and knowledge sharing in raising public awareness and building capacity of organisations within the expanding network. The Anti-Corruption Network (ACN) is a private sector group led by a consortium of Thai businessmen and more than 30 industry associations, which include the Thai Chamber of Commerce, the Thai Bankers' Association, the Federation of Thai Industries, and the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET). Pramon Sutivong, advisor to the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Network will kick off the partnership, which precedes a research seminar hosted by Rangsit University and Prof. Dr. Sungsidh Piriyarangsan, director of Chandrakasem Rajabhat University. The new partnership complements UNDP's on-going Anti Corruption Initiative, which seeks to bring together line ministries and commissions such as the National Anti-Corruption Commission, civil society, and the private sector to fight systemic corruption in Thai society. http://www.nationmul...n-30188851.html Hopefully this watchdog will have some teeth. I don't think it was squeaky clean here before he arrived on the scene. It all goes back to the historical way of showing gratitude and favours... gift giving. It may have worked a couple of hundred years ago but the Thais have morphed it into a different beast.
