Samsung Gadget

Whats the general concensus of the Samsung galaxy tab2 7.0 ?

Looking to get something similar, dont want to small as eyes are bad and dont want anything to big as dont want to look like the myriad of gooses wandering about with ipad size phones and cameras these days.

Just something easy to use while away on holidays and out and about in coffee shops that is not a hassle to lug around.....also not too expensive as I dont use gadgets.

this is not that simple a question - it depends on a lot of things, not just size, and these are my personal preferences - your milage (and needs) may vary!

I am getting old and my eyesight is getting worse and I don't want to be lugging around multiple devices when I am out and about or away for the weekend so I am trying to balance usability and convenience

I'm a hopeless toys man so I buy a lot of gadgets just to try them out. I current use or have extensively tested:

iPad 2 9.7" screen, 1024x768 (132 dpi)

iPad mini 7.9" screen, 1024x768 (163 dpi)

Galaxy Note 5.3" screen 1280x800 (306 dpi)

Galaxy SIII 4.8" screen 1280x720 (285 dpi)

Asus UX32 13/3" screen 1920x1080

for surfing the web in a cafe none of the browsers available on the four phone/tablet devices really do a great job on most of the web site I use regualarly, the Asus ultrabook is more expensive, heavier (but still ultra-portable) but runs standard Win 7 browsers that handle all the web sites as expected

for checking email on the fly any of the four phone/tablet devices are usable but give me a real mail program on the Asus for serious email any day

for apps like Pulse (news/RSS feeds) the Google apps version on the Samsung devices are just as usable as each other and just as usable as the IOS variants and I always carry my Galaxy SIII rather than the weight of the iPad

for apps like Bangkok Post the iPad 2 or mini are much better than the Android versions

for apps like The Economist and Evernote (reading) give me the iPad2 any day - the screen size is great but for daily usage for Evernote give me a real PC like the Asus ultrabook

for reading Kindle ebooks give me the iPad mini any day - the weight v's readabilty is great

watching movies I would prefer the Samsung 16:9 screen ratio rather than the Apple 4:3 screen ratio

if I want to do serious work while I am away for the weekend then the Asus ultra-portable is really the only option

I think I will always stick to a phone like the Galaxy SIII - I can use its phone/SMS/other functions easily usually without my reading glasses and can do most of the quick email/app/web stuff while I out at lunch etc and the android versions of the apps are usable for me

for serious work when I go away for the weekend I will always take an ultrabook, but that is fairly specific for me

for at home or holiday use I still have not decided between a lighter 7-8" device or a 9-10" device but my gut feeling is towards the next generation iPad mini for weight and usability

but as I say your milage may vary

I have the wi-fi version that I use primarily as an e-reader. I love to read but don't have to lug books around. Nice for email as well.

wow bkkguy....thanks for making my choice so much more simpler....not.

But thanks for the effort to explain...I did not realise, or forgot...about the usability of them all for websites.

I also looked at the new asus ultrabook with the touch screen....I did like that also.

Go for samsung galaxy tab 7.7.

It has amoled screen and faster processers.

I used one for sometime.

Quiet nice for 15.900 thb

After g tab 7.7 g tab 7 2 screen looks like muddy.

Guess you have never used Opera mini on any of the tabs, give it a try and you will be very surprised just how well it works.

true, I haven't used Opera Mini for years so most of my previous objections may no longer apply to the current versions so I should check it out again, but I did not like their "man in the middle" attack on SSL connections and dumming down all images and redesigning pages on the fly to get them to flow well - I am not sure what is worse, a recognisable page that does not flow well or a page that sort of flows on a small screen but you can't find any of the navigation and layout features you are used to!

and as more and more complex sites do their own "mobile" versions and apps then browser limitations become less of a problem

well as they say in Patpong - "it is not just how big it is but what you can do with it that matters!"

I have a Tab 7.0 and a Tab 2 10.1

The 7 is better as a phone and more portable (about 7,000bht s/h)

The 2 10.1 is a bit awkward to carry, not very good as a phone, you need a headset, but a much better video player (16,000bht).

Both are great as GPS and book reader.
