Need New Passport One Month Into 1Yr Ed Visa.

Featured Replies

I do actually have one free page remaining but even so, I will be needing a new passport quite soon, definitely within the 11 months remaining on my ED visa.

I'm aware that my new passport require sending the old one to Hong Kong and it will be a month before I get the new one (and hopefully the old one) back. This part itself is not an issue providing I time it so that I get them back before my 90 day immigration check in.

But, what happens to the visa once I get a new passport?

Thankyou

SB

Not to hijack your thread but I have a similar question regarding passport renewal.

My yearly retirement extension for the Non Imm 'O' falls in January and my current passport expires in October. Will they renew my 12 month extension even though my passport has less than a year before expiring.

Thank you.

Back in the days when I was on a Non Imm 'O' based on marriage they just transferred the visa into my new passport. Had to provide proof that the new passport was actually mine?? Still can't figure that -- Nong Khai Imm Office. No charge.

You do not send your old Passport to Hong Kong, read the instructions on the website properly.

When you receive your new passport you go to your local immigration office, they use two pages to move everything across from the old passport into the new one, this is only for those on extensions, before anyone comments.

They will give you the full year, as it means messing around with their stamps to change the dates, and they are not gonna do that.

Shoeboat: When you renew your passport you only send a copy to HK not the original. When you get it back, if you are on an extension, you go to immigration and have the permission to stay stamp transferrred to your new passport. Visas are never transferrred.

bdenner: When you aply for your extension, they will give you permission to stay until your passport expires. When you get your new passport, you take it in and get the balance of the one year stamped in your new passport. - free!

Thanks guys, that works for me!

They will provide extension to the expiration date of the passport only. When you get the new passport they will provide the remaining time when you have extension transferred into it.

Many embassies provide letter togehter with the new paspsort, advising immigration of the new passport. If you get such leter, you should take it with you. Immigration can ask for it.

The UK Passport Service does not provide such a service unluckily.

I was requested by Jomtien immigration for this letter that I did not have and initially said I would have to go back to my Embassy (Australian in BKK) to obtain. I asked if there was a workaround & speaking to her manager they agreed for me to call the Embassy to request the letter to be faxed. After handing over my mobile to the immigration manager who spoke with Consular Services the letter was sent by fax that was accepted by Immigration. Only took 15 minutes end to end - good attitude and service from Thai immigration in Jomtien and Embassy staff.

I usually renew my passport in Australia at any (my nearest) post office. The only receipt is my direct debit docket. -- Of coarse, when transferring visa details at Nong Khai I didn't have this receipt. No point applying to the Embassy as they had nothing to do with it. After airing my opinion of the situation they completed the transfer, reluctantly!

What is wrong with these people? They see my expired/cancelled passport and the replacement -- What's with the Embassy crap!
