Couple of transportation questions for you. Quick background...we lived in BKK until 6 months ago and we're coming back for a visit so I'm familiar with the city and I have basic Thai.

1) Wife and kids and I get into bkk in the afternoon. Mother in law gets in late that night. Is there a way to pre-book AOT for her? I don't want her to have to deal with a taxi. I'd love for her to be able to walk to the AOT desk with a receipt and not have to worry about getting to the hotel.

Wife and kids will caravan with friends to centara in pattaya later in the week, but I come the next day.

2) Our company made us give up our Thai license when we departed, but we've driven to pattaya loads of times. Will a local company let my wife rent a car with a US license? There is a local rental car place near our hotel at the corner of Sathorn and Rama 4 we want to use.

3) I've got to get to pattaya on my own on a Saturday morning around 9am. I'd prefer not to go from Silom to Ekami to get the bus then go from pattaya bus station to centara. What will a taxi run me from silom to centara? We used to live on saladaeng and I hardly saw any taxis at 9am on a Saturday morning...I can imagine trying to find one to take me to pattaya....any suggestions?

re your 3): Standing there in your white skin, you should be able to find a taxi driver willing to take you for a ride, anywhere you want to go. You will need at least a 1000 baht note, and a selection of 500's and 100's, so you won't have to hand him 2 x 1000 notes, and listen to him tell you he has no change. Ascertain whether the fare includes toll charges, or perhaps just assume that it doesn't. If you pay the tolls, that is one way for you to get change.
