I like in your op you would rather drink in the dark than have electricitybiggrin.png

Our Aussie power prices have almost doubled in a year Id say. Its ridiculous.

This year I went from a one bedroom small condo where I was paying 4,000 baht for electric to a new 3 bedroom home where I pay 1,000 per month. So I'm still happy. The condo guy was charging at a much higher rate than Thai homeowners get charged I guess.

The new price is still cheap. The interesting energy price rises this year will be CNG and LPG - it's anyone's guess.

you think its cheap its more than what we were paying in the uk.our bill in the uk was on average £66-86 a quarter, here its 1,800bht-2,000bht pr.month,in £'s thats £122pr.quarter.

Common area electricity charges included or was that taken care of in the condo fee charges?

Anyway glad to see you have extra bedrooms to take in homeless TVFers. Bless you.

Our monthly bill is less than 1K Baht on average. We rarely use the AC, biggest saving I found was not keeping the kettle on all day. That used around 325 Bahts worth over a 12 hour period/day/month. That's in a private house.

Each condo had it's own meter. I checked it by turning off everything and the meter stopped and I also checked the reading every month. It was an older condo not really any common areas as they were open. They rented one bedroom units for 4000 a month so the electric was almost as much as the rent.

£66-86 a quarter??!! That really was cheap. Must've been donkey's years ago.

I remember paying around £300 a quarter just 5 years ago. Shudder to think what it'd be now but maybe, with a competitive marketplace like the UK's, it might not be that bad.

Don't think there's any meaningful competition here so nothing you can do about it. Pay up or use candlelight.

20 or 30 Pounds per month? I was paying more than that last century when I was in the UK

Our bills are higher than they were, now around 800 Bt per month.

We don't have aircon, don't like it, much prefer a fan.

2 bed bungalow with 2 aircon 1200 Baht a month.

UK price £60 a month = 2910 Baht a month. (And that is summer bills !!) Direct debit from my UK account.

Definitely a good price here IMHO.

The Fuel Adjustment Charge (Ft) charged to consumers has been less than the actual Ft increases since July 2011. The Energy Regulatory Commission has held down the Ft increases and requested EGAT to shoulder the burden of increasing costs for a temporary period. The Ft increases will now catch up to actual costs as well as allow EGAT to recover previous losses.

The package of ham I used to buy at Tesco for 121 baht is now 127 baht. What am I going to do? I'm going to have to stop leaving a 5 baht tip for the 35 baht Thai meal I eat every day.

If you came here when it was 25 to a USD or 38 to GBP, it won't affect you much, but if you are one of the many who came just after or during the 97 crash, you are probably hurting.

To me Thailand is very cheap, then again, my main other place to go is Tokyo, and that can be eyewateringly expensive..

It's all relative.

Well the price of meals will probably rise to 40baht so you'll have no choice. Since the Thai minimum wage increase some fresh produce like cucumber (30b/kg) cabbage (60b/kg) and kale (60b/kg) have doubled in price while fresh chilli has more than doubled. I still maintain that this electricity hike will pale into insignificance if the government alters LPG or NGV subsidies. The way inflation is calculated by governments is always misleading, though, as some things are anti-inflationary. I still pay 599baht/month to True for internet but it now gets me 7Mbps instead of 512Kbps like it did back in 2007 and all the functions and features on the Samsung mobile I paid 18,000baht for in 2006 can now be found on a phone costing under 3,000baht. Weirdly, though, taxis still have a 35b flag drop and small bottles of coca-cola are still 10baht per bottle from 7/11, just as it was when I first visited Thailand in 2005.
