I will drive from Kalasin to Loei via Khon Kaen and wonder if I should go via Chum Phae and Phu Kradung (very hilly?) or via Udon Thani and Nong Bua Lamphu? Which route do you think is the fastest?

Highway 201 isn't that hilly or curvy. Actually there is only a short stretch that has hills and they are not steep hills.
