HI,

As per title am buying a new car.

The Chevrolet dealer offered 375000 for old car that I have, (bought in 2007 from new), which is a 2.5 CTI Chevrolet.

I said no, want 380000.

He then took me to a second hand car dealer who did offer 380000. I accepted.

Having thought about it - bringing in a 3rd party , is not the normal way to go in Europe. In Europe its a one place deal done in the show room - the car is taken in part exchage and the balance paid - finished.

Here, the showroom salesman wants me to go to the 2nd hand car dealer do the deal with him and come back and pay the full amount at the Chevrolet dealers.

Is this normal or not?

To my mind this is not normal, or am I wrong?

He did say he can have the 2nd hand dealer in the showrooom at the time of buying the new car after I queried the procedure.

I am a bit uncomfortable with the above procedure. If I am in any doubt then I will go elsewhere to buy the new car.

I am buying cash and not credit - and GF who spoke to dealer, (I dont speak Thai), said that the dealership have never had someone buy cash before!? whistling.gif

Any suggestions

Looks normal. Most new car dealers do not have sec. hand. cars. Toyota Pearl has started sec. hand cars, but still with a kind of 'external' dealer:

And in case, you think about the 'commission thing', here in Thailand. The salesman from the Checvy dealer gets two times, now.

One time from the guy, who bought your car. Another time, for selling a new car in cash

I guess, he would have liked it better, to sell on down payment: Bank commission, too!

Yes, normal. You may want to check out some more second hand dealers, if he already offered 375.000 chances are you'll be able to get at least 400.000 elsewhere, probably even more. After all your dealer would have sold the car to a second hand dealer himself for more than the 375.000 Baht.

Yes, very normal as the dealers are normally not interested in second cars.

Only interested in giving you a below market price and as Stevenl says then selling it on to the second hand car dealer for a profit.

Quite often when you take your car to a dealership for evaluation as a trade in the guy that does the evaluation is actually a "tent dealer" anyway.

Perfectly normal and great for us! I got 617000 Baht for a 2year 9 months old D-Max Pickup by the dealer calling a private dealer (but ex Isuzu chap) , car cost 790,000 new so solid deal.

Put the cash on a new Mu 7 but could have gone anywhere as I was holding the folding. Its a Brucey bonus and one that falls good for us, so go for it!
