Japanese engineers to boost awareness on earthquake impacts among Thai schools

BANGKOK, 16 January 2013 (NNT) - A Japanese engineering firm is to embark on its campaign to convey knowledge on how to reduce earthquake impacts among Thai schools and will inspect their buildings, especially schools in Bangkok, to give suggestions on how to improve their structures against earthquakes.

Association of Natural Disaster Prevention Industry President Pran Siamwalla revealed that even though Thailand has fewer chances of being the epicenter of an earthquake, it is susceptible to distanced earthquakes. He said many high-rise buildings, especially school buildings, must be built strongly enough to mitigate potential disasters.

Mr Pran said that in many cases, people in buildings could feel tremors from earthquakes in neighboring countries. As Bangkok is located on muddy plains, he explained, the tremor could intensify by 14 times as much as that felt on buildings standing on a rigid surface.

Meanwhile, Miyamoto International CEO and President Kit Miyamoto said his company will inspect schools across Bangkok and give knowledge to teachers and students on how to prepare and cope with earthquake situations.

Miyamoto International is a global earthquake and structural engineering firm that provides critical services to help sustain industries and communities around the world. Its engineers gave assistance to China during the 2008 earthquake. It has also been providing inspections and building improvements to schools in Turkey and Haiti.

Perhaps the Swiss could be invited to advise Thai kids how to cope with the threat of avalanches too.

The Aussies could chat about bushfires. Arrange a paid educational tour and I'm sure there would ne no lack of volunteers, Aussies are just generous by nature.

And perhaps Science and technology Minister Plopadop could advise on flooding...biggrin.png

Its great that they are providing advice, but the thing with advice is, somebody needs to take that advice...lest we forget about the advice the Dutch offered as regards flooding, Thailands repsonse what do those farang cheese heads know about flooding...flooding Thailand not same same flooding farangland..

This Japanese engineering "consulting" project to "educate" Thai children sounds like a scheme that was hatched over a few cocktails and lap dances at a private club on Soi Thonglor. The scheme , of course, had an agreed skim on the consulting fees that the Thai agency would charge the Japanese engineers. It also included a "kickback" to the Japanese engineers who suffered the indignities of having to go around to Thai schools and lecture while Thais played games on their tablets.

So how stupid is this???? Palllleeeesssseeee.....

Stupid is as stupid does..... Somehow this dumbfounds me.... Maybe they should design the nueclear plants also,,,, Gee I hope they are not a division of Mitsubishi... they redesigned steam turbine steam generators at more than a year ago at San Onofre... California It is still dead... so much for ingenuity...... cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif
