Rubber farm update.....Weedkiller 0 - Weed Whacker 1

Just got these photos from my good lady this morning showing how the maintenance is going at the rubber farm.

Instead of using weedkiller (as used by many farmers in our area), We decided to try and eliminate any unnecessary chemicals

on the farm by using a weed whacker. My Missus and Uncle Date (LungDate) set about clearing the grass and weeds that had grown

between the trees.

The task ahead.

Making a start.

rub2-001.jpg

Starting to look a lot better already.

A selfie.....been chased by scorpions, scared to death by snakes (real phobia) and eaten alive by ants.facepalm.gif

Trust me when I say she normally looks a lot happier than this.....bless her smile.png

Many thanks to SWMBO for the photos and the hard work.clap2.gif

Good photos lads. quite like the march of the Duck Army, they'll drive the OpFor quackers... <gets coat>

I wonder what they were putting in that massive pit shown upthread?

^ is that a sluice gate housing on that beck err stream?

In Australia it is sometimes said that something is "On the other side of the black stump"

There has been much speculation as to just what is on the other side of the black stump.

I can now reveal with photographic proof that on the other side of the black stump there is :

More rice.

It's an elevated tomatoe tree, Jim... Is that considered hydrophonic? I don't know.

Same farm; same tree.

Yes mate...Rons photo made me totally Quackers (Great photo Ron).

I think that the "pit" was the makings of a fish pond in Goomps photo.

Good man scunner, stream is a perfect description.....was racking me old noggin for the right word last night and could only come up with creek blink.png

I put it down to being too long away from England, and have lost the use of my native tongue......guess me old brain has become 'Dutchified'.

Anyway, back to your question. It is not a sluice but a fish trap.A net would be hung over the pole and then weighted down in the stream.

Here is a photo of the other side

..........now this is really Quackers !!!

Those clouds in the middle kinda make me think of the old Red Indian smoke signals.

smile.png , How romantic. That reminds me of an old indian joke, Shaggy.

- "What do those smoke signals mean, old Redskin?"

- "They mean there's a fire somewhere, young Grasshopper"

^ OMG it's duck-apocalypse lol

Aye stream is as good a word as any, I was going to call it a beck, which unless you're from West Cumbria you wouldn't have a clue what I was wittering on about, so a strategic edit was required.

Btw isn't Dutch for stream stroom?

My god everyone has gone quackers this morning ! tongue.pngwhistling.gif Great shots guys! ... the video too!

Yes DAL the toms are hydroponic as they are not grown in soil liquid feed with fertilizer!..... But it is not a constant feed as it is with the lettuce~!

Next time I go by I try and see what is in side the pots to hold the roots!

Hanging toms of Maenam!

A couple of days hard work and the trees at the farm a feeling a lot more comfortable.

Update on the Missus, sore back and blistered hands......I did get another selfie ,but I'll leave it at just showing the trees.

clean.jpg

Just a bit of tidying up to do and fertilizer to give and then they should be all ready fro the rains to come.

Am really proud of the Missus for taking on this task....full respect to her.
