Ron19
Okay I'm willing to look the idiot, are they shallots or another member of the onion family? Brave man. They are common shallots, indeed.. They really look surprisingly similar to garlic cloves in this growing stage. I think they must be related. In the end you're brave and I'm the idiot. Not so much the idiot, you have got the spelling right this time.
Popular Post T_Dog
Well, it has been 3 months since the pod first appeared and the bananas aren't getting any bigger any more. Any guesses on when it will be ripe enough to cut down and eat?

Any guesses on when it will be ripe enough to cut down and eat? I can't tell you how long but looking at it in the photo maybe 2 or 3 weeks. When the 1st banana turns yellow that is when you should cut it down and from then the rest will follow suit and ripen. Some people leave the bunch whole and others will cut the individual hands off and leave them spread out in a sheltered open area preferably not in full sun.

Popular Post Dancealot
11am, 33 degrees and there is NO shade. Smoke break's over.... Let's get back to work, on the double! Life may seem tough but over the years I have gradually learned the farmers' life rewards outway their burdens. Initially I foolishly struggled to try to compare their life with mine in Europe... Much later I discovered I needed to take a step back to be able to see life from their perspective to make any proper assessment. This made me appreciate and respect a farmers' life even more. [edit] I appreciate your sunlight/shadow contrast in your previous post, Shaggy. Nicely done. Edited June 23, 2014 by Dancealot

Popular Post David48
This was day 1 On day 1, the wholesale guys came to the Farm but they were only buying Pla Nin ... so any other Fish was returned to the pond. Were those fish jumping for joy? Flying fish? Just the (non-Pla Nin) fish being returned to the pond for the Day 2 harvest. There no floaters the next day so, despite their excitable flight, they seemed all to survive! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From the Day1 harvest of Pla Nin, they filled a few Utes Trucks ...

Popular Post Ron19
This isn't my dragon fruit but one that I pass every afternoon while perambulating around the village. At the moment there are only flowers and I hope for their sake that they all set fruit, haven't counted the flowers but looks like there could be between 20 and 30 of them.
David48
Ron, when you care for your planted DragonFruit, do use any specific fertilizer to encourage them to set fruit? Not asking for name brands, just wondering if you use something, or let Mother Nature take it's course.
