90-Day Reports Needed With Back-To-Back Medical Extensions?

Featured Replies

I'm assisting an elderly woman in hospital in Chiang Mai who is probably going to need a second 90-day medical extension. Would it be necessary to do a 90-day report in this situation? She entered the country on a tourist visa, but did a border run shortly before hospitalization, so she's coming up on her 90th day in the country. Also, would she list the hospital address or the address of the guest house where she still has her stuff?

It's a sad situation, but there is the possibility that she may recover enough to travel back to her home country (with escort). I don't want her or her daughter to encounter extra hassle at the Chiang Mai airport international area with her visa situation if she's able to leave.

Incidentally, this is in Chiang Mai, where it's a big deal to simply ask this question at Immigration. Always huge crowds and I will spend at least an hour if I file a 90-day report of her behalf -- just as an "insurance policy". It would be nice to know that it isn't needed.

There should not be any issue as 90 day reports are not a requirement for departure. But why not include a TM.47 in the paperwork for the second extension of stay to cover any question?

The first 90 day extension of stay can cover the period prior to that as first extension counts as a 90 day address report so will be due at same time as new extension of stay.

How would the first extension count as a 90-day report when there wasn't a TM 47 filed at the time of that medical extension? She was already well into her 60 day entry on her tourist visa when the first medical extension was granted.

The first extension of stay always counts as the first 90 day report. Check immigration web sites for 90 day reporting if you do not believe me and you will find the below.

The first application for extension of stay by the foreigner is equivalent to the notification of staying in the Kingdom over 90 days.
