Non Immigrant B Visa From Melbourne

My mate is going back to Melbourne in a couple of weeks and is going to take my passport with him to the Thai embassy in Melbourne to get a new 12 month Non imm B visa. We have got visas from there in the past.

Can anyone help me to advise the following

1. if he can get the visa for me (without me being there)

2. If he can get it, can it be used by me even though I have not left Australia with it and therefore "validated" it. In other words, can I just go over to Cambodia with it to start it?

Any ideas, help would be appreciated.

This is your first post, so I am going to say, that would be quite silly, rather than what I would normally say.

An extraordinarily bad idea.

Not sure if you will get a visa not being there. But you can use it if you do get it. Mine was done in this way...cant say where, but I just crossed a border with it and started over again. It could be dodgy these dyas though if they count back through your stamps.

Sure, no problem.

Just make sure you have a plan B, i.e. a ticket to fly back to Australia.

Couldn't say for sure whether Melbourne would issue a new visa without your physical presence in their office but they certainly won't issue a visa if they notice that your entry/exit stamps say that you are still in Thailand.

Not leaving Australia yourself with the visa is not the problem. Again, the problem is that you were in Thailand when such a visa was obtained and this is a no-no. If an alert immigrations official latches on to this during any subsequent entry into Thailand, you are in trouble.

you usually have to have all the associated documentation in order to renew a non - o visa like marriage certificates and etc. I did this with my wife in tow last July in Penang.

It's not a good idea to mess with this arrangement. Both yourself and your friend could become personae non grata with the result that your friend could never come back to Thailand and you could be arrested and then chucked out.

Ain't worth it mate...

What you plan is strictly illegal. Immigration will see that you were in Thailand when your visa was issued ( if indeed Melbourne didn't see that you were in the Kingdom ) A recipe for disaster. Jail and deportation is the outcome together with a ban on re-entering Thailand for a long long time.
