cardholder
An "Over 50 year old" cannot marry a Cambodian adi in Cambodia - but could they marry in Thailand ? If so, what paperwork would be needed by the Cambodian ?
PoorSucker
Affirmation to marry in a foreign country from The Khmer Embassy.
beano2274
I would have thought they would need to get a certificate from their embassy to prove they are single, as per the UK Affirmation to Marry, then translated into Thai and certified. But would the marriage actually be recognized in Cambodia if they moved back there?
cardholder
Thanks. Recognition from her home country is not an issue as they intend to live in Thailand. Recognition from the UK is important for future pension entitlements etc. I am intrigued to learn what other paperwork she would need to stay here. cardholder
Her passport and a job, or she can be a dependent of her husband and piggyback on his extnesion of stay. Thanks Mario. I guess the 'Farang' would need to get himself a retirement extension first (having previously stayed on a marriage extension that divorce would nullify) and then apply for her to stay as a dependent..... Mario2008
Correct. he gets his retirement extension first, than she can apply as being his dependent. But she might need to apply for a non-o visa in a neighbouring country first.
Sheryl
AFAIK there is no law preventing someone over 50 from marrying a Cambodian. There was brief talk of such a thing at one point but it didn't go anywhere.
sbk
According to the US Embassy it is law: http://cambodia.usembassy.gov/getting_married_in_cambodia.html
