Pattaya Rental Cars Ripped Off By Indians

PATTAYA:--Two rental cars were stolen from a Pattaya car rental company by Indian men with fake passports, who did not return the vehicles. The vehicles were tracked by their GPS signals. One was being repaired and recovered by police. The other vehicle, a Toyota Fortuna, was already in Burma.

SAMUTSONGKHRAM – February 2, 2013, a report of two vehicles being stolen from a Pattaya car rental company was received by the police of Bangpu police station, Samutsongkhram province.

newsjsThe police had been notified of the theft by Mr. Amornsil Srikhansai, age 43, the owner of the rental car tent in Pattaya. He reported that his customers had not returned the two cars they had rented for 5 days.

When he checked the GPS signal that was set up in the rental cars, he discovered that one car was already in Burma. Mr. Amornsil told police that he had rented the two vehicles on January 21 to several Indian men, who claimed that they worked in a tour company.

The two rented vehicles were a black 4-door Toyota Vigo, license number KHOR KHOR-2744 Chonburi; and a black Toyota Fortuner, license number KOR TOR-9925 Rayong.

Mr. Amornsil had collected the daily rental fee for 1,500 THB for the five days for each of the vehicles, as well as 25,000 THB in deposit money.

IMHO it is an extremely judgmental and racist article-heading !

To mention the nationalities within the article; fine; but why must it be 'screaming' at the top ? ? ?

Good point and I thoroughly agree.

I'm surprised they could get one of the vehicles into Burma though w00t.gif - must be driving home.

This is not racial nor is it judgemental. Every headline in the press in Thailand mentions if it was a foreigner or local involved in any incident. i.e. Dane / Fin / Brit / German jumps/falls/pushed from balcony/robbed by Thai Lady boy

This is not the first case of this theft happening. It is the first case I have seen reported in the press.

This "racket" is carried out by one nationality and they all drive over the same border.

How about a headline that says "Bad person steals cars and drives home via Burma to the country next door"? or "Dark tanned guy with Cliff Richard quif wearing a long sleeved dress shirt, black dress trousers, black leather shoes with no socks steals expensive cars to order and drives home"

Thailand is one of the few countries I know where you can hire cars for cash. A 500 pound deposit is chump change to handover for a 2 Million Baht SUV. Then just drive off into the sunset.

Surprised about Burma ? Do you think bribery does not exists outwith the Thai border...?

Don't think it was judgmental at all, it was apparently factual. Neither was it "screaming" at the top, it was mentioned in the same tone as the other words in the title.

Would you be screaming "racism" if the alleged theives were mentioned to be British or Dutch, for example, or any other Nationality?

It's never racism if your skin is white, you should know that by now.
