This all depends on THE list. Thailand is not even on many of the lists but s korea seems almost unanimous. I was skeptical of one list which ranked the USA above Germany, HA!

Thailand is 57 on this list:

What role does education play in day to day, quality of life, standard of living etc. verses, say, culture and genetics or other factors? This was actually inspired by the fact that having and reading books does not seem to play a large role in Thailand (as a broad and perhaps unfair assessment on my part.)

Please be civil in your responses.

Education plays a very large part in my daily life.

I'd have not had the opportunities that I've had without my education at primary, secondary, tertiary and post graduate level.

I'd not have the flexible and 'innovative' viewpoint on a fairly unproductive discipline populated by charlatans and buffoons which has allowed me to flourish without my breadth of education at school, at university, and in my early employment.

For me, education is very important, and I think everyone should be educated.

Bytheway, I don't see what your question "What role does education play in day to day, quality of life, standard of living etc. verses, say, culture and genetics or other factors?" has to do with Thailand, as indicated in your thread title

So you guys really find these rankings credible? For example, the USA is ranked 26th. I've heard of countless foreign students wanting to go study in the US. I haven't heard of too many busting their balls to go study in Finland or South Korea. Just saying.

I suppose if the standard of English language education in most countries was not so good then more students would go to places like Finland or Korea.

You and I, and our educational institutions, are blessed with the benefit of the language of Empire, which gives us a significant advantage in international markets
