jamhar
agreed.. Its become counter effective. Esp with Pakistan in danger of being sanctioned by the US for the iranian pipeline. If the sanctioning happens, the US will lose land access to Afghanistan.

If the sanctioning happens, the US will lose land access to Afghanistan. What are the proposed sanctions? From my reading it will restrict/block legal financial transactions between Pakistani financial institutions and US banks and reduction of military aid; will this lead to Pakistan blocking access to land routes to Afghanistan with all the income it generates for Pakistan? The US is losing the original strategic goals for the invasion of Afghanistan. Right now Al Qaeda presence is significantly reduced, but there are serious questions of whether this will be the case once US reduces it's military operations forces down to 6,000 maybe 10,000 after 2014 & Afghanistan will revert to a dysfunctional State outside of the major cities. Take a look at the review at the following URL: http://www.aei.org/article/foreign-and-defense-policy/regional/india-pakistan-afghanistan/how-to-waste-a-decade-in-afghanistan/ Edited March 14, 2013 by simple1

Right now Al Qaeda presence is significantly reduced What a brilliant strategy on their part, bide their time in Pakistan and wait for the pull out. No doubt Karzai has exit strategy plan A and B in place for himself and his cronies to abscond to with their ill gotten gains.
Steely Dan
If aliens were to land in Afghanistan and observed what's going on there I doubt they would come up with any other suggestions for ISAF troops than to kill anyone in an Afghan army uniform or failing that get the hell out of the place.
