March 13, 201313 yr I need to send a dog domestically by air and need a cage. The dog is about 19 inches tall at the shoulders. The cages you can buy that are high quality are rather expensive and since they are often used only once, I wonder if anyone has such a cage to sell. Thanks...
March 13, 201313 yr Aren't those classed as extras (in much the same was a cots & wheelchairs) & therefore supplied by the airline?
March 13, 201313 yr In the US you can buy the approved kennels directly from the airlines that you using to transport the pet. As I said buy, and they are not cheap. I don't know about intenal airlines within Thailand.
March 13, 201313 yr Author BKK Airways only requires a "strong cage," and nothing more specific. They do not provide anything.

March 13, 201313 yr Author Interesting idea, renting, but not sure how I would return the cage...mail it? I also wonder if anyone knows about the Samui dog rescue place and if they might have something there.
March 17, 201313 yr Sorry - bought two cages recently, but they're currently in London (where the dogs were sent), and are probably too small anyway as the dogs are shih-tzus. I got them in Bangkok at "The Paseo" - near the airport, so can't help on where to buy in Samui. The general rules for airlines are: - They need to look fairly sturdy (basically cargo can be put on top of them without them collapsing. - door seems strong enough, etc.) - Probably related. A lot of airlines require the connections between the top and bottom halves of the crate to be metal screws, not plastic fixings of some description. - Have to have a rim around it so that there's a gap if pushed up next to a bulkhead (so that there's still airflow) - Have to have air holes on all 4 sides. (one cage I looked at was perfect apart from this... - no air holes on the back). - Once the dog's inside needs to be able to comfortably lie down and turn around - and have 5cm head room above it if it's standing up. - Add in that you'll need a water bottle (attached to the outside - like you get for rabbits - which allows the water to be changed), and a food bowl (which was allowed to be loose in the box to my surprise),
August 22, 201312 yr I am also looking for 2 crates to move my Thai dogs to Malaysia. If you find anything used or for rent, please let me know. Steff
