The identity of the 266th pontiff was not immediately known.<br /></p><br /><p>The white smoke emerged at approximately 7:07 p.m. local time on Wednesday, followed moments later by the ringing of the giant bells of St Peter's Basilica. The identity of the new pope is expected to be announced within the hour when a cardinal appears on the balcony over St Peter's Square.<br /></p> <p> tvn.png
