Hong Kong...from Bkk

Whats the best, cheapest....most convenient flights ?

Air Asia looks it....but need to return on monday and no flights according to them......could go with them and return with emirates perhaps...

Also hotel...had recommendations, but all seem rather exy.

Want central area, view would be sweet, but can go without that if problem.....convenient for getting around to most spots.

Hotels exy, tried airbnb, but they are slow and most that suit seem to be booked.

Need for 3 people......under $200 for 4 nights......so big bed and one extra bed would suffice.....but all hotels look to be charging 2000b plus for xtra bed.....on top of circa 5k for loom

When are you looking to visit ?

Macau is an option, but then expensive to stay there plus 1-2hrs to commute to HKG

Bare in mind, it's Hong Kong sevens next week, 22nd-24th so prices will be sky high. It's the busiest time of year for Hong Kong, most hotels will be full.

Other than next week, check cathay package deals, hotel + flights, usually pretty good. Thai air too.

I usually pay around 3-4k hkd's (approx 11k bht+) for my flights from bkk to hkg. Hotels vary depending on where you want to stay.

But 3 people, under 200$ in central ? .... i'd look at a youth hostel if i was you. 5k thb + a night sounds about right for central / wanchai area.

Macau will generally be cheaper than HK - the majority of the hotels are 5 star..

You should be able to get a room for 3 people under $200 (depending on which denomination of dollar you're referring to of course - AUD, CAD & USD will be fine, HKD not so much)

Depending where in Macau, you can get a Turbojet or Cotaijet ferry across to HK - takes about an hour each way and costs $HKD134 per person, after 5pm the price goes up to $HKD170..

It can be a bit of a hassle going from Macau to HK if you're wanting to be in HK..

The other general issue I found was lack of English, most speak Catonese and not much else. Despite all the streets being in Portuguese - it's rarely spoken.

As mentioned earlier it Sevens week so the place (HK) will be swarming!

You won't find much for under the $200 a night quota...

Return via Aira Asia from Macau? Not sure what that commute is like

The commute is a kind of catermaran with a boing engine,

There used to be a trick where if you went to a casino and changed money into chips then waited before converting back into cash it was possible to get the boat oneway free,

If you really feel adventures try (one 2 go) very bad safety rate but only costs 6-7k baht bkk-hk return, food is crap but anyway its only a little over 2 hours.

$200US I hope you know I meant ?? Solly.

Damn...thats why it is so busy...the footy......might have to change weekends, I did want to go on 21 and return 25.....

Rugby not Football.

Use hotelscombined.com for hotels, fly12go fly there but have really bad departure times. Look on itasoftware and put in the dates and you might get a good deal.

Itasoftware coming up with

10150 Hong Kong Airlines

12245 Emirates

others around 17000

Try Novotel Nathan Road. Its very central in kowloon and walking distance to the MTR. USD200 should be just enough for 3 persons room. Forget about the commute from Macau. Too much hassle and its not cheap. Also, if you fly back from HK you can check in at the city terminal, which allows you to move around in the city after you check in your luggage, and head to the airport at leisure.

OP, Beano has some good prices there.

There's often good deals to be found on a flight+hotel package.

This weekend is the 7's and the weekend after is Easter weekend, a public holiday in HKG. Flights / hotels may or may not work in your favor.

If you're paying 200usd per night, you'll find some good hotels in central, Agoda et al. will have plenty. It's all about location in HKG.

But if you want to pay 200usd totally, i would look for a youth hostel. Plenty to choose from, most usually safe, clean but small.

There's always Chungking and Mirridor mansions. (google them) I hear the ymca in TST is good too, but have to book in advance.

Enjoy your trip.

WL!

Have you tried Skyscanner.net for comparing the cost of flights?

And for area - by central do you mean on the island? Can save some money on accommodation by moving up the MTR line towards Mongkok & Sham Shui Po on the Kowloon side - still very convenient for travel in and out of Central...

I stayed in the Ibis at North Point on Hong Kong Island a couple of weeks ago, US$70 a night. Tiny room, 11sqm, but had a harbour view and included breakfast.

OK for a night or two, we stayed three nights, a few steps from the North Point Metro Station.
