No idea where to post this nugget

A local bar near where I live has a Thai band and they are pretty good.

The first time we went there , the band asked me to play, my wife's family told them I was a guitarist.

We did a jam and played that old chesnut - Cocaine.

It was okay and everyone clapped.

I was asked to buy the group a drink, as they allowed me to play with them.

Hmmm okay.

I ended up there a few times since and they always asked for Mr Cocaine to come up and play 'youknow'

Every time I was asked to pay for a round, and everytime I succumbed.

I have played the guitar for about 30 years and can hold my own.

Last night we ended up in the same bar, and they asked for me to come and play again.

My son was with me, he is a very good drummer and aged 14, they asked us both up.

This time I noticed some smug smiles and was a little bored of the same old routine.

I asked if the Bass player knew anything a bit more technical and discovered he knew Eric Johnson's - The White Cliffs of Dover.

We did a really nice version of that track and at the end..the band bought me and my son..and my wife drinks ...made me smile - sorry if his sounds smug :)

Music fans may smile a little.

Nice story...I hope you chose nothing less than Jack or Chivas smile.png

And this time I'll be that jerk that feels it worth pointing out that you can get stitched up for "working" without a WP for your performance.

Lol.... no way man.

Why do some people have to try to pull the rug from under a nice post by trying to make out that Thailand is some sort of police state... He wasn't working... I suppose next time I am on the karaoke, I better check that nobody from immigration is around.

Luckily Thais are a bit more sensible and able to recognize the difference between someone having a jam by request in a bar and performing as a booked act.

Sheesh..... some farangs.

It's cool , my current WP doesn't expire until the end of April.

One of my roles - as per my job description - was 'Music Teacher' at my school smile.png

I organised a large musical talent show and we did quite a few performances around Kalasin - One of them was in front of the Police Station.

The requirement for a WP has nothing to do with earning a living, can be applied to any activity that someone may or may not be paid for. Volunteering, helping out at your local school, whatever. . .

Yes the odds are slim, but don't say it can't happen, every once in a while it certainly does:
